Hi everyone,

I picked up my new fiat 500 car two week ago. Last Saturday 03/11/2018, while I was driving on a fairly busy road, the car just went into neutral!!
I couldn't move it and the only way I could get it to move was to turn off the engine and restart engine. This happened twice on Saturday. I dread to think what could have happened if this had occurred on a motorway. Is this normal?? Does anyone know why this would happen to a brand new car? And how can this problem be fixed? Please help!! Thanks!!

Unfortunately, due to the behaviour of the dealership when I reported the fault; I no longer have confidence in anything they tell me.

REJECT the car straight away, inform the dealer in writing using recorded delivery and stand your ground. Also inform Fiat customer relations even though this may not make a difference?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties; this is not what anyone would reasonably expect from a brand new car.

I'm assuming yours is a dualogic model.

These transmissions are notorious for giving problems once they've accumulated a bit of age & mileage, but two weeks is a new record for this forum.

If it happens again, then I'd be making strong representations to the selling dealer. If you're not happy with the way they're handling the issue, raise your concerns with Fiat Customer Services. In short, complain to the dealer if you have an issue with the car, and complain to Fiat CS if you have an issue with the dealer.

Thanks for this. I will do.

I wouldn't wait for it to happen again.

Straight back to the dealership, reject the car, get your money back.

If its on the drip, reject it to the finance company too.

Stand your ground.

D

Thanks, much appreciated.

Thanks for this. I will do.

Don't expect either the dealer or (if there is one) the finance company to just meekly accept your rejection - you may have a fight on your hands, and you may need to get independent advice. The line I'd suggest is that your confidence in the car has been so badly damaged by the manner in which it broke down that you no longer feel safe driving it.

If you are going to reject the car, it's important not to do anything which could be construed by implication as accepting it. In particular, this means you must not continue to use it. If you do, you could weaken your case for rejection.
