I have a 2004 fiat punto mk2b facelift version
I have a rpm problem. Problem is when car gets to normal running temperature the rpm jumps up when changing gear now I no its not a clutch problem. Cause if I unplug the stepper motor on the throttle works perfect. But this is my second throttle body with same problem can anybody help!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

When you say "stepper motor", I assume you are talking about the Idle Control Valve.

Maybe you have pointed to your fault. There could be an issue with your Idle Control Valve.

Just a hunch. Might need cleaning. Did you put a scan tool on it, to see if you got a fault code at all.

John.

This is the second throttle body with the exact same problem. Cleaned it twice. But it doesn't do it when the engine is cold. Like if you step on the throttle quick then change gear rpm drops normal if you gradually press the throttle then change will jump. It's confusing lol

Did you consider a relearn to get it talking to ECU correctly..?

Hi, Just to add to varesecrazy's point. Here's a video link to give you an idea of a re-learn procedure.

I'd like to stress at this point, you'd probably find on you tube, a video pertaining to the procedure related to your specific make and model.
If not, then there's plenty of help here on this site to point you in the right direction.
Good luck.
John

I have tried that a few times now but nothing seems to be working will give it another try today and see how I get on. Thanks for all the advice guys

Hi,

Just a thought now. You're pretty sure its not the clutch, but the problem appears when operating the clutch. Is there chance that a cable is being disturbed or pulled out of position in the engine bay.
Another question if you don't mind. When engine has reached operating temperature, and you're driving along, and then press the clutch, without changing gear, does the problem still appear?

John.

Hi,

Me again. Any chance that your throttle wire cable to your pedal is fouling the wiring harness somewhere. As you mentioned, when you diconnect the throttle body, it runs perfect.

John.

It's definitely not the clutch it will do it even if I don't put the clutch in lol. So after an hour of cleaning plugged it all back in. And I watched the air control valve through the hole when I press the throttle the valve moves backwards and then let off it moves back outwards towards closed but it's very jumpy action not fluid if you get my drift. Like just watching it idle the valve is very jumpy and erratic. Signal problem? Wiring maybe? Any help lol thanks for the help up to now guys appreciated :)!!!

Also coolant light comes on when unplug throttle body is that right???
