I have a 06 grande punto 1.2..... It needs some oil but I'm not sure which type to get. I don't have the original manual for this specific model and places online say 5w40 and others say 10w 40? It's near minimum on the dipstick, so will 1litre be enough? Thanks

pretty sure your manual asks for 5w-40 but check.

I use shell ultra 5w-40

Thanks. I can't check because I don't have the manual. Just a general fiat handbook but I needed to know which one for that specific model

For the small extra cost, I'd fully recommend draining your oil and putting new in. The 1.2 takes 2.6 litres, and I can confirm is 5W40. I'd recommend replacing the oil filter too, this costs less than £10 and is worth doing while you're at it (y)

I only bought the car in February and it had a full service when I bought it. Clearly they just didn't put enough oil on or I have a slight leak. Thanks though I will use 5w40. Il
Stick a litre in and see how it lasts. Cheers

Whoa.....the total amount your cab can take is 2.6 litres and if you just stick a litre in you will probably over fill which is as bad as under filling. Contact the garage that did the service and ask what type of oil they put in and use same, or similar. Also, if you do have a leak then you need to check your oil daily. If you do have a leak then you should be talking to the garage you bought the car from as it's only been a month and a half since you got the car. Have you checked that the oil filter actually looks new and is tight. Also check sump plus and make usre the oil isn't dripping out there.
