hi everyone, new to this but see how i get on. have a problem with my fiat grande punto 1.41 3d active sport. have message coming up on dashboard (excess radiator check fluid stop and turn of engine) the engine cuts out start car up again message still there but doesnt cut out. it has been on the dignostic machine showed it needed a coolent sensor so replaced that but it still cutting out from cold start and messagestill there. anyone have any suggestions on what it could be. i love my fiats but this is driving me mad

no done at a reputable garage

the garage wants to have car overnight and see what it is doing on a cold start. it only cuts out once then the rest of time it starts no problem. think message maybe separate problem.

check battery condition and cable security and resistance of cable


also check MAP sensor

how old is the car?

first registered 2007 i have had it for a year. only 38 thousand on clock.

If they've got a decent diagnostic machine, they'll be able to view the live data from the ECU. If they can, they'll probably see the actual cause is the air temp sensor reading too high (usually 45deg+) and the actual error is coolant temp feasibility (or similar).

On cold start, the ECU see's the coolant temp being low (say 5 deg) and the air temp high, and incorrectly decides it's the coolant temp sensor that's faulty. You'll probably find it's a bit reluctant to start/run when cold due to the ECU not running a rich-enough mixture as it believes it's warmer than it is.

have just phoned garage and they say as soon as they started it from cold the dignostic machine picked the map sensor. so they are replacing it today. the message on dashboard still there he having a look at that now. will keep this updated fingers crossed they can get rid of message
