Hi!

I'm new to the forum - only had my Multipla for a couple of months. Already, what seems like the dreaded injector failure. I've searched through and found a couple of helpful threads on this, but can't find the answer to my question.

I've got a 51 reg 1.6 16V Multipla.

The engine management light came on with a 'ENGINE-CTRL FAULTY - CONTACT GARAGE' message flashing and with a repeating buzzer. The engine sounds rough - as if on 3 cyl - I assumed injector failure.

I took it off to the Fiat dealers and they plugged it in, turned off the warning and said they were probably intermittent.
3 faults were recorded:
1. Injector failure on CYL4
2. Coil failure (didn't ask which)
3. Something to do with the ABS (this comes on intermittently)

Managed to blag not paying for it!! For that day the engine ran fine again.

The next day it came on again. It's stayed on ever since, and it sounds like we're down to 3 cyls.

THE COIL PACK?
Removing the HT leads from cyl 1 and 4 makes hardly any difference to the engine's running. I've measured the resistance across the coils and it's the same across both pairs of HT outlet terminals, but low? The manual someone's posted up here says around 9 kohms at 23 decreesC. It's about 1 degreeC now and I'm reading 4.6 kohms on both pairs. Seems a massive difference to me - also, there's a crack along the middle of the coil pack, as if it's been bolted down to tightly.
- Does it sound like I need a new coil pack?

THE INJECTORS?
I took off the connector from the wiring loom to the fuel rail and measured the resistance across each injector. Measured between 13-16 ohms for three of them and can't get a reading for the fourth - the top one on the connector.
- Does anyone know which cylinder that connects to?

Hope this isn't too drawn out, thought I should give details where I could.
Any help would be much appreciated!

I had bad injector no 1, that is the one closest to the timing belt.

The bad one I measured around 12 ohm but all the other 14 something.
A while since I did this, cant remember the exact ohm reading, but there was only 2 ohms in difference.

It happend to me to get other misfire/coil error when my injector failed.

I am having the exact same prob with the 1.6 16v brava i have just got. Makes no diff to the running if i remove leads 1 and 4.

There was a spare coil pack in the car but does exactly the same with that. The spare has a crack down the middle just like yours....weird.

I am assuming its the coil pack as i can smell petrol from cylinders 1 and 4 when removing the plugs.

i had very similair symptoms on mine and immediately thought of the coil as it has a crack in. i thought i would go for the cheap things first so changed all plugs, no different, then went for the leads and that solved it :) i am going to replace the coil at some point but i would recommend doing the leads first as it is an easy fix and worth doing anyway (y)

its funny you say that because most multipla coil packs have a crack down the middle it is a design fault with the middle bolt location that causes the crack but it does not effect usage what so ever

Already changed plugs and leads, still the same. I reckon its must either be dodgy coil or loose wire somewhere.

Hi, I've just bought a Y reg Fiat Multipla 1.6 16valve. It also is beeping at me and saying 'ENGINE-CTRL FAULTY - CONTACT GARAGE'

It sounds like its running on three cylinders, what's the best way to approach it, bearing in mind I'm not that good at fixing cars, can do a few basic jobs, but don't wanna start taking an engine apart. Is that necessary for changing an injector if it's that??

Is there anything I can do first that might stop it, ie injector cleaner or something?? I don't wanna be spending a fortune on it and my local garage said it'd be 80quid for an injector and 125quid to fit it!!!!!

He's gonna hook it up to the computer tomoz and thats 25 quid to see wat the problem is. I dont wanna have to pay 230 quid!!!!

Pleeeaaaseeee helpp haha
Thanks!!

Had this issue myself on a 1.6. I checked the coil, nothing apparently wrong, plugs, leads etc..
However the three terminals from the LT circuit to the coil were a wee bit corroded and the plug seemed to be a bit 'proud' of the fitting, I removed the metal clip, cleaned the terminals, put a very slight twist on the terminals to make a tighter fit, used a tie wrap to seat the plug really tight, disconnected the battery to get rid of the engine fault light.
Started it up and to be honest and to my complete surprise the bloody thing worked, it was only a short time ago so I will have to keep an eye on it, but thus far it seems OK.
