hi all
i upgraded my arb's with the ones from superflex
took some pics to show location and so on
first pic shows the offside arb location behind the steering arms they are bolted to the lower subframe with 2 x 13mm bolts undo these about halfway
where the top bracket meets the bottom bracket put a screwdriver in between and tap the join, the 2 brackets will seperate, do this front and back of the bracket

i took a few mill off the base with a linisher and a mill or 2 off the arch inside not the flange
i kept offering it into the arb clamp till it feels nice a snug i didnt want to take much off it as i wanted the clamp to really hold them tight once bolted down

once seated ok i cleaned off the top arb bracket with the linisher now it will grip the bush very well

the last part is offer the bracket to the bar and get one bolt in at first the front one just a few turns

then get a bar and prize the bracket down and the 2nd bolt will go in easy
once bolted up you should have a nice and tight fitting poly bush that should last for many years
heres what they look like fitted
hope this has or will help someone if so im happy
peace

no affect m8
as the superflex bushes are not as hard as you would think
they are like really hard rubber but pliable enough to get on the bar and trim down.
if you managed to clamp down a superflex bush that has not been trimmed it would still allow the arb to perform its duty its just very hard to do that without trimming the bush ;)
there is no play in the arb in any direction its very snug fitting
i think the knocking comes from the bush moving in the top bracket and not being secure allowing the arb to knock, i dont think the 18mm hole in the orig bush, wearing is the fault.
so packing the arb with tape will only work if it pushes the arb bush snugly into the top bracket again.
or you could hit the top bracket with a lump hammer and crush the bracket onto the bush again i bet that would cure it for a short time too lol (y)
peace

would be sensible to have a bit of discussion on cutting methods for the poly. I think Peat mentioned stanley knife, and Klytus says about using a linisher. Be interesting to know what all suggest if we dont have access to power tools.

if you have not got power tools
put your superflex bushes in a pan of boiling water and trim them after a couple of mins in there
i use whatever is to hand at the time of doing it
if there was no linisher or knife im sure i would have rubbed them on the pavement till i got them to fit lol
u will know exactly what needs doing once you have the new bushes in your hand
its a very easy job to complete and very little mechanical knowledge is required

rover 100 bush - chris suggested on the phone today! very like the multipla, but with the cutaway. 3.99 each

what are peoples thoughts on the dynamics of not having that base section....??
the right hand pic in post #4 is interesting as it suggests that "that bit" may not actually be load bearing.. or rather that it might not be braced?

only way to be sure is for you to buy a pair and try them
the saab/croma bushes are a very snug fit and work thats all i know
buying them and finding out there good / no good will be of help to other members im sure, get them and give us a write up about any issues you encounter
peace

I don't think it would matter about that small section 'missing'.
If you were worried about it you could just cut a piece of rubber mat to fill the space in.

I can see no point in them being made like that, when a round section would work just as well.
It seems like a lot of unneccessary trouble/expense to make them anything other than round actually.
Mine will be round...when I get the time to do them

hi m8
i would mill a flat into them if i was making them myself to sit flush on the lower bracket so it don't throw out the centre holes and make them squeeze the top and bottom making the roll bar look like its sitting in a oblong instead of a circular bush hole (y)
there's also a welded washer on the inside of the arb to stop lateral movement the superflex hug them nice and tight just allow a flange on both sides to hug the bracket and it will be fine.
would love some pics of you making the bushes m8 (y)
i love making parts myself but no longer have a workshop

think I'm going to stick with the saab ones. The Rover 100 ones, although well sized, have the hole for arb higher up than the Multipla one, so could affect something...

That's weird, I'm sure I replied to this earlier...

Fair point, but then I'll be making my own brackets as well, and sleeving the bar itself. (y)

sorry m8
i thought you was using the original brackets
in that case it wont matter :D
would love to see pics of the bush/bracket making process (y)
its just a shame the end of the arb where it bolts to the droplink has been flattened and drilled or they would just slip over the bar and you could make them without the cut in them (y)

Hi Klytus Fello Derby Man(y)
