Hi, I'm new but I've had 12 various Fiats and Alfas and this is our second Multipla. The clutch bearing has been whining for a while and on the way to work, It gave in all together. Has anyone done one and how difficult is it? (I have a fully equiped garage but other than service the Multipla and change the brakes, I've done nothing on one.)

Any help or suggestions will be gratefully received.
Thanks,
Lee:cry:

(I'll probably do the clutch whilst I'm at it)

Ive just changed mine on the older shape but if yours is a diesel id not see any difference really.
I changed the flywheel on mine as well to be sure as i didnt fancy doing it again.

One point while your at it is if you have any oil leaks on the sump you may as well do that at the same time as you need to move to box and take the flywheel off to remove the last 2 bolts on the sump (it may be poss to just move the box though).

I removed the battery and tray (bolts underneath the tray are a pig) for access as well as the inlet pipe.
Remove both wheels and drive shafts as its easy to damage the seal on the offside if you dont (again ask me how i know).
The offside shaft can be removed by undoing the 6 allen bolts 3/4 of the way out then undoing the support bolts (3 i think ) then it will pull out with a little tap.
The nearside is much easier as it doesnt have the support or bearing halfway along its just a case of undoing the 6 allen bolts leaving the cv end still in the hub.
You will nead to remove the nearside wishbone to have the movement for the shaft and it gives a little more room to take the box out.
I also took the nearside droplink off but cannot remember if its essential now.
Once this is done you need to remove the gearbox cables from the top of the box , i got these from inside the nearside wheel arch i did remove the plastic inner arch for ease.
also the slave cylinder which is just 2 bolts, i would advise you to buy a set of ribe bits i paid £15 for a set of sealy which contains all you will need as well as torx and allen bits as the clutch is held in with these.

You will need a second set of hands when taking the box out as its a bit heavy when its on your chest (ask me how i know) i just got my mate with some straps around the box to take the weight.
Once the box is out you really need to replace the input shaft seal as it seems they are a week point and are not expensive.
I would also have on hand an offside driveshaft seal just in case ebay is cheap but mangoletsi in knutsford are good on mail order.

I seem to be going on a bit and getting things in the wrong order at times  but hope this helps.
Any questions ill do my best to answer.
Just a note be carefull with the selector cables if you decide to take them off the mechanism i broke one of mine and they are about £100 and only sold in pairs.

Cheers mate. Am trying to sell the car, so may just reduce the price a bit. It doesn't sound impossible but I just don't have the time. BTW, its a dual mass flywheel isn't it on the JTD?
