Hello all, first post so be gentle!!

I have recently bought a Multipla 105 JTD and first impressions are good, although on occassion (especially when first started) when pulling away the engine has no power (20 mph with foot to the floor) and then after a few seconds or when dipping the clutch to increase the revs, the power comes in when the turbo kicks in.

Could this be somthing simple like a mass air flow sensor or is this a more serious problem brewing like faulty turbo etc?

Hi,

I seem to have the same problem.

Is the EGR vale just below the airbox? there are three outlets but only two hoses connected.

An orange hose from the exhaust manifold goes to the bottom and a hose from the throttle valve goes to the ona above.

Is this correct?

Thanks

Sounds to me just like a bit of turbo lag when the engine is cold and at very low revs. A quick slip of the clutch gets things moving as described in the original post. All diesels run a bit rough when first started - my JTD105 does and it also displays the same symptoms as described above, although only if the engine is forced to labour at low revs when cold, which to be honest is no way to treat a cold engine anyway. My advice - change into second a bt later.

Sounds like overboost valve your looking at,EGR is big metal electrovalve bolted onto engine.

Put the car into our local Fiat dealership as the dash started alarming saying "Engine Control Faulty", "Contact Garage". Car was put on the compter and they diagnosed the problem to EGR valve and air pressure sensor (full of oil) due to poor running, so hopefully back on the road tomorrow evening.

Predictably will come out of the service centre needing to remortgage as will be £300 lighter including the diagnosis (£66 diagnosis, two hours labour @£75 per hour, plus the above parts and the dreaded VAT).

All in all expensive week as lashed out a further £150 at the weekend having new diesel filter, air filter, oil and filter change and new cambelt fitted and still need to buy two new tyres plus a further £70 to change the off side lower arm and suspension mount!!

Well after 5 days in the garage as Fiat did not have an EGR valve in stock, I picked up the multipla and the power has returned... whoopee!!

Maggie, if your FIAT dealer is as "usefull" as mine, find an independent specialist.

If you are in the SE, Gonnella Brothers of Catford (London SE6) are brilliant. They have the FIAT diagnostic equipment PLUS common sense. I've taken my cars here from new (you can do that nowadays without invalidating the warranty).
