Panda (Classic) Godiva -- the blue 750L (L is for "Low mileage")

Introduction

PIPPIN -- the blue 750L (L is for "Low mileage")

Well, having not "driven stick" for many, many years, picking up Pippin (the Panda formerly known as Godiva...) was one heckuvanadventure...!

It was fun, though! And I got him/her up to an indicated 70 mph, at one stage; but s/he cruises rather nicely between 60 and 65 mph. (It's a good job s/he doesn't have a rev counter...!) S/he also drove really well in heavy traffic in town... (it's the Shakespeare Birthday Weekend, here; and really sunny...). :D

Here s/he is, parked outside Black Cat Motors, in Stratford-upon-Avon: waiting to be MOT'd, serviced, and given a thorough once-over. (And I make no apologies for promoting them as a garage: they deliver sterling service -- which includes taking their customers all the way to pick up their new cars...! A big thank-you to John, the owner, therefore, for whizzing me up the A46 in his swish 4.2 Audi A8, earlier...! And for commenting that "It doesn't look like a twenty-three-year-old car, does it?") (y)

Thanks to everyone for their help and support -- especially to purple haze for bringing him/her to my attention...! :worship:

Watch this space...!

PS: Not a bad way to celebrate my 1,500th post to the Forum, eh...?!

How Pippin looks now -- after a light fettling from VmanC... :slayer:

homeward What you should do is source a period Fiat Blaupunkt or Grundig radio (we can probably work out which it should be for that year!!) and get it adapted for mp3pod thingys. A good classic radio place will do that.

Ta! (y)

Unless anyone has any specific recommendations, sometime, in the distant future, I shall consult with the classifieds in Practical Classics, then... (whilst simultaneously nagging them, again, about featuring a few Pandas... -- especially in the valuation thingummy in the back...).

I have a period radio in the bianca as well as a collection of others.

The bianca one has a correct period radio cassette and a cd jack socket on the front which you can plug an iPod or iPhone into for music...works a treat.

These radios you can get on eBay for as little as 99p..there was a fiat labelled one which had no bids last week...with a 99p start!!

It's late; and I've had a long day... -- so feel free to tell me I've lost the plot... -- but (acknowledging that it's not quite in period; and that this is probably a temporary compromise...) how do the Panda Peeps feel about this...? And can anyone see any problems installing it/connecting some sort of iPod adapter...?

Got that exact radio in our 1998 Vauxhall Corsa. It makes fuzzy noises when you change the volume. I doubt they all do it though.

I thought Corsas made "fuzzy noises" all the time.... :p
Ours makes more noises than any rattly Fiat is existence. It hasn't be serviced at all in 6 years. It has dents, scratches, everything is bodged. Its going rusty now. Nobody likes the car. We all thought it'd die at some point and then we'd just scrap it but its still going somehow....

Every time I drive it I make a point of changing gear somewhere past the 4000rpm mark at a minimum

This looks a good choice to me. Ipods and radio/cassettes are from different era's so you may struggle to find them combined in one head unit.

Will be no good for you, designed for Vauxhalls only, in their separate display unit with clock and external temp display built in.

Not sure if it would work and make noise, but you would certainly be guessing what you're doing.
