Punto (Mk1) Punto 60SX :)

Introduction

Hi everyone!

I've created this thread seeing as I've posted the old one in the wrong section! :bang: Sorry guys!

This is my first car, a MK1 Punto 60SX from 1999, also known as Jimi :slayer:

It's not perfect but it wouldn't be fun if it was!

Here's how I got it:

Fiat Punto 60SX Edit.jpg

So, after some deep thinking, my first personal touch was a new Fiat gear knob and a white leather gaiter (I know it's too short, I'm gonna get round to it eventually!) :p :

After that my stock tweeters melted and my radio broke, so I got myself a Pioneer head unit and a pair of Alpine E-Type 4" Speakers for the front doors:

Front 4'' Speakers.jpg

And some Alpine E-Type 6"x9" on the parcel shelf for good measure; I know what most of you will say but I have to use my boot quite often, and the sub will come... eventually ;) :

So I went further, I bought a Twin Pipe Exhaust which came with a 3 step reducer:

And this is how it looks on the Punto now:

For Christmas I got these lovelies seeing as my old ones were a complete mess! :

The other day I decided I'm gonna give my car some colour.
Step one was to get the old side moulding (to others may be known as "the plastic bits on the sides") off, get all the old tape and gunk off the car (which was a BIG, MASSIVE pain!), paint them and stick them back on.

Gave it a bit more thought and decided to do the front and the rear of the car too. Here's how it went:

When I came to do the back I had a bit of trouble:

Here are my new lovely alloys! 14"s of a Bravo, bought on eBay for £70 (including tyres and fitting that hour!) Bit of a bargain really! (y)

I must admit they're not in pristine condition but that just gives me something useful to do! I think I'm gonna refurb them and paint them white

My plan would be:
  • Refurb the alloys and paint them white
  • CC the wing mirrors and door handles (that would in green, not silver) Thoughts?!
  • Tint the rear windows to about 65%
  • Stick some decals on the quarter panels :p
  • Cut down the gear stick!
  • Get some new air vents (which look decent)

Any thoughts, comments and suggestion are more than welcome!! :D

Thanks for keeping up everyone! :peace:

Update! :D

Got my car out of the garage and turns out it's the Cat COnverter that's buggered, so whizzed off to Luton Motor Factors :)thumb:) and managed to get it just before closing time; hopefully, will be fitted tomorrow!

Fitted the new Duct Hose - here's the comparison between New and Old:

Also fitted the new Centre Console!:

(Sorry for the bad pics, blackberries, what can I say )

Thanks for keeping up everyone! :)

As always, all comments, suggestion and opinions are more than welcome! :)

'Accidental' 15mm drop? ;)

Yup..for some reason whenever you got to a garage with a 16v mk1 they assume its a sporting so I got nice new suspension off the wrong car. Tidied handling up usefully though.

Thanks man! :D But I'm looking for the whole suspension kit ;) (y)

Probably for the best given the age of the car probably be looking at broken shocks sharpish if you kept the originals and just went with lowering springs.

I like the centre console tidies up the interior nicely, could you get the door cards with speakers in them? (I know console is off a GT which was 3 door so won't fit but ELX and possibly 85 SX 5 door cards had a mounting point for a speaker in them which could tidy up your doors) Colour matching could be an issue though and the cars they come from are rare. Can't find a picture other than this one.

Hey man! :)

Haha I wish I could get an 'accidental' 15mm drop! :p My rear O/S shock is close to being completely fu*$£&, the rest aren't too bad but all squeak like a bitch, when I go over even a tiny speed bump. :(

Thanks dude! :) I've just ordered the Gear Gaiter Bracket (plastic ring that holds the gaiter to the console) (y)

As for the speakers, I've bought the speakers' spacers which will look quite nice, all I need is some acoustic cloth or something like that and I'm sorted! This is what you call DIY! :D

I was thinking of getting door cards of other Puntos but to be fair, mine are in pretty good nick, all I have to to do is sand down the arm rests cos they are scratched, clawed, etc, etc; plus that gives me an opportunity to start painting ;)

Thanks for the input mate! :) Very much appreciated :)

Hello, hello, hello everyone! :)

This weekend I'm having my new Catalytic Converter fitted, Front Brake Pads, Rear Brake Drums, LEDs for the number plate (As suggested earleir by Mr X1S1 :slayer:) and Gear Gaiter Bracket/Ring/Thing.

Pics of all of the above will be put on tonight! Pics of the finished work will be up on Sunday afternoon/evening! :D

Next weekend my plan is to paint the calipers, tint rear lights (to a legal extent of course! :yum:) and clean the car after the 2 months of it being dirty

After that, I need to pay out my insurance, which is going to make me weep just as much as my wallet

Plans for the near future:
- Angel Headlights
- Lower/New Suspension
- Refurb alloys and get low profiles on dat ting :yum: OR get 15"s from a GT ;)
- New Seats
- ColourCode all the plastic
- As mentioned earlier by StevenRB45, black out the door pillars; on that note, might vinyl wrap them
- Refurb all the interior/Bring it up to standard and paint it
- Green is going! Red is coming!
- Touch up the paintwork
- Etc, etc, etc

Thanks for all the input guys! :D

As always any comments, suggestions and opinions are more than welcome! :slayer:

Here's the update, as promised, chums!

This is the pic of what I was going to fit this weekend:
Things to fit!.jpg

Most of the stuff got fitted but some didn't because I didn't have the right equipment (n) (also known as a soldering iron). That includes the front speakers' spacers and acoustic cloth to go over them.

What I have done is below! (y)
Here are the lovely drums :p
Brembo Rear Drums.jpg
Brembo Rear Drum Outside.jpg
Brembo Rear Drum Inside.jpg

And here's how they look painted and fitted! :)
Drums Painted and Fitted.jpg

I didn't want to go for mad colours, so just went for the closest thing! Aluminium!

Fitted the Brake Pads, didn't bother doing the calipers just yet, simply because I needed to drive about a few places :( But hopefully next weekend, if the weather allows!
Brembo Pads Fitted.jpg

Got the LED as suggested earlier by my main man X1S1, they really make a MASSIVE difference, it's like having a set of full beams in the rear! :p
New LEDs =D.jpg
New LEDs fitted!.jpg
(Yes I did fix my rear bulb, don't worry )

Would have got the picture of the cat converter but, nothing special about it, just your standard cat. Went to the garage, they fitted it, then called me and said we managed to get some of the power of the car back but your problem is in the exhaust. :bang: So here's my learnt lesson of the week, if it's a bargain, first make sure WHY it's a bargain. My ****ty universal back box only cost £40, and proof's in the pudding. So, in my state of depression, realising that I've just taxed my car for the year (£135) and my insurance is due for renewal in a couple of weeks, went and bought this:
Cybox Exhaust System.jpg
(Sorry about the small image but that's the only one I could find, resembling the one I got)

So here it is! Thank you all for the input!

As always, any comments, suggestions and opinions are more than welcome! :)

Quick update!

Buonasera everyone! :)

Having such a hectic weekend and having little time on FF made me forget to mention a few things. Whilst replacing the rear drums my mate, and I, have noticed a tiny leak in the Wheel Cylinder on the N/S, which is going to be fixed tomorrow evening when I get back from work.

Having thought, thought, and though once more; I've decided that since my car is going through such a 'drastic' change in appearance and modifications, as well as naming my pride and joy after a dead (yet awesome! :D) guitarist would be rather interesting, I'm going to change the name to Tamara. Not only because I like that name but also because my little beauty looks like a Tamara.

Anyway... Here's the list of mods I'll be working on next weekend:
- Tinting rear lights (to a suitable degree)
- Fitting the new Cybox exhaust tail pipe and cat back
- Colour coding some of the plastic and painting the pillars for a 'slimmer' look (ONLY IF the great British weather allows)
- Might start work on painting the interior also :yum:

So far, I think, that's it.

Any suggestions, opinions and comments are... always more than welcome! As always! :)

Well I hope you're being sensible and replacing BOTH rear brake cylinders while you're at it... You should ideally bleed through all the brake fluid so that all the old stuff is gone and your braking system should then be 100%. And then the clutch fluid too...

My choice for drum / caliper colours would have been the classic Brembo gold like on my Cagiva... I've done my Brava brakes in Gold Smoothrite. But Red / Silver is OK.

Oh and I wouldn't lower the car until you have fitted the correct diameter / size tyres... 175/60 or 185/55 14s should be the best for your car. You have already raised the ride hight with taller 'Brava" tyres so sort that out first and you'll get an idea of the handling and looks with standard suspension.

Keep at it.

Yeah of course! :p
I've drained all the clutch fluid about a month ago when my clutch slave cylinder went awol :yum:

The reason I went for silver is cos I didn't want to stick put like a sore thumb! Plus I got a plan and until I go ahead with THAT plan, no one is allowed to know :p..... anyways silver/aluminium is what I'm after! :)

I'm after standard GT/Sporting 15"s with legally lowest profiles allowed, THEN I'm going to lower :)

Thanks for the input though fella! All is greatly appreciated :)

Excellent, is it a Cybox/Peco?

If so I doubt you will be disappointed.

HELL YEAH! :slayer: I went for your advice guys and bought a cybox system!

I know for sure I won't be! It even makes noise while OFF the car! ;)

Oh by the way, 2 weeks. And I'll have moneys for the seats! :slayer: so after that, whenever you're ready to meet! :D

images are titled cybox so i'm guessing so ;)

It's alright blu, it's still the morning! ;)

New Update! :)

So, got my exhaust fitted as you all know, took ages to get the photos up because there wasn't any decent weather around! (n) But managed to get a few snaps (y)

I did say that I would put a vid up of the car's sound but... I think I'll keep that surprise until Brooklands ;)

Hi everyone!

A very long time since I've posted on here!

But anyway, back to business...

It's time for the little lady to go :( The car is now officially on sale.

£1,000 or make me an offer.

Fiat Punto MK1 (1999, T reg).
1.2 litre engine.
The car has done 94,900 miles. But the head gasket, along with few other bits has been replaced at 70,000 miles, so no worries about the engine.
A new clutch has been fitted at 85,000 miles, so again all good on the clutch side.
The car's stock exhaust system has rotted away and has been replaced with a rare Cybox/Peco Exhaust System which was only purchased last March.
Bravo's 15" alloys have fitted to replace the standard steelies.
New tyres would be put on this weekend.
New rear offside tail light.
I will drop in all the original parts that I have left also.
Passed the last MOT with no advisories!!
Rear number plate has been replaced last year.
The centre console comes from the GT model.
The green side mouldings have gone now, so only the front and rear are left; however I will drop 3-4 meters off vinyl wrap, so easy does it!
Alpine 6x9's on the parcel shelf.
Alpine 4" speakers in both front doors, used Honda Civi's speaker mounts.
Phillips (I think!) head unit.
White leather gear gaiter and Fiat branded metal gear knob.
A few scratches here and there but nothing t-cut won't sort out.
Genuinely a lovely car to drive!! Fuel consumption is excellent, but then again depends on how you drive! ;)
Need the car pretty soon to now. :(
No silly offers. If you're interested please PM me!
Thank you all, you've all been an amazing group of people :)
