Technical EBA warning light

Technical EBA warning light

Atleast my weekend without mechanical valve at the rear axle gave no warnings when I had no rear brakes. Disks all around and rear pads had badly rusted to the carriers when I bought the car.

For pad warning, only front axle has the leads.

According to the official Fiat workshop manual they call it the EBA (electronic brake apportioning), probably does the same job as an ebd valve but electronically through the abs system, which is probably why they had to come up with a different name for it.

Shoes being changed next Monday so we shall see.:)

hi,

presumably the modern tech. equivalent of the old Brake Proportioning Valve ,
found as a long arm and a BIG spring on the rear axle of most 80's + 90's FIATS,

basically limited the braking effort to rear brakes according to rear load,
passengers - full boot , etc,

No EBd is a system that increase brake pressure in an emergency braking situation over and above that applied to the brake peddle.
Worn brake shoes or pads on rear disc will not show up on any faults lights, but worn pads on the front would.
I would assume that the EBA they refer to is the same as EBD system just wrongly translated from Italian.
From what I recall the brakes will work normally, you've just lost that emergency system. But you still would be advised to get it sorted, may be related to the ABS??

No, EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) applies max force to wheel(s) with most grip, EBA - Emergency Brake Assist is completely different.

EBA is where the vehicle still applies MAX braking force upon the force being applied to the brake pedal being reduced under emergency braking situations (common occourance before collission as the body braces etc) and continues to do this until the brake pedal is released completely (y)

That's the one:)
In the workshop manual disc I have for the Marea it calls it 'electronic brake apportioning' but as someone else said above EBA also stands for emergency brake assist which is a totally different thing.

We are just lucky that manufacturers no longer put all these things on the boot lid, you could just imagine it:

Fiat Marea Weekend SX100 Automatic ABS EBA EBA SIPS WIPS SRS ABC XYZ

They would have to have side extensions to the bootlid to get them all on!
