Helping a friend out here so I hope someone can help me :) Do doesel engines have EGR valves? It seems from reading up that it's not a good idea to reuse exhaust gases in diesels as you get a reduction in power, but that doesn't seem to answer whether they do or not. Thoughts please!

The egr valve controls nox by reducing cylinder temperature, no other reason. If the cylinder temperature is high then the nox is produced, so by reducing temperature the emissions can be cleaner, it is nothing to do with protecting turbo bearings or anything else, its just a way of reducing emissions.
