Shell Optimax

I swear on my little Cinq's eyes me and my mates use the petrol from a garage around the corner (a BP garage) because it seems to make the cars a little bit more responsive...no sh*t. We swear by it. You really can tell the difference. If you had a tank full of that and then when you needed to fill up used a Tesco or whatever, the car would seem more sluggish. The price is average for normal petrol and it isnt a higher RON. It just seems that it's a little more 'fruity' when using that BP petrol from that particular garage.

all i know is that not only is premium unleaded (whatever brand) more expensive, but its also cut my petrol station choice, as there are only 5 stations in perth that stock the stuff!

We get very little choice in fuel here, whilst I was driving across the US for a month, I noticed, a few stations with 107 Octane for sale!

I run the Marea 20V almost exclusively on Esso petrol. Occasionally I put a couple of quids worth of something else in, but very rarely. It probably works out to 45% esso standard unleaded and half esso super, with around 5% of other stuff usually BP. It always runs well, but revs slightly more freely on super, which seems to help with the little flat spot I have at about 3900rpm.....

I tried Optimax for a while when it first came out, and as many others found, it was great for the first few tanks, but then performance really started to drop off. In theory it should never get any worse than it was on standard unleaded, but it was running much worse than it had ever run before. All I could put it down to was Optimax. I went back to standard for a while and after 2 or three weeks, normal performance returned. I then tried Esso Super on Nige's reccomenation, back in the days I was a regular at the Bravo forum. Its been great ever since!

Hi

BP have recently started advertising their BP Ultimate Unleaded fuel. Is this like Optimax, has anyone given it a go? Be interesting to know as I saw it at the pump the other day for 81.6 pence a litre.

Cheers.

I took my Dad's Mondeo too BP 2 fill her up 2day and it ran like a bag of s**t afterward. Like my Sei, it behaved the same and it is used 2 running on supermarket petrol.

I spoke 2 him about it and he said something about mailine fuel being a lot richer than Supermarket fuel (only just making the grade) and when ur car keeps running on the same quality of fuel, it can behave a little weird when u but a different quality in until the EMS adjusts after a couple of tank fulls.

You can wave your catalyser goodbye if you put that stuff in:
even the "LL" stuff has something like 2 grams of lead per gallon[:0]
Way more than boring old leaded 4 star.
