Garbage.

Buy decent oil - oil manufacturers spend loads of cash making sure it's the best it can be, if it needed some gunge dropping in to improve it they would do it at the refinery. If this stuff quietened down his engine it's probably an oil thickener, and his engine must be quite worn.
