Anyone in Telford area had the Silver Service option? Full Service for 30k miles or 2 years is £320, Silver Service is £135. For that I do get my oil and filters, (oil fuel and air) changed, my brake fluid replaced, usual checks etc but not the pollen filter. Anyone know what else is NOT done on a Silver Service v the £320 Full jobbie?

maybe TJV would be the best place to ask. it is not unusual for a customer (like me for eg) to request a list of what each service includes.

it is then good fun to compare it to your service schedule to spot what they dont do. also after the service before you leave TJV check the list they gave you to see what they havent done.

its good fun, especially when you have a service manager pinned in a corner looking for excuses. if you find things not done (i can guarantee 100% they wont do everything, it isnt possible with the time they are given) you can argue for a discount.

Cheers Jug... I did ask the "girl on the Service desk phone" what I dont get... she isnt at all clued up on that or at least stated she wasnt, thats why I asked on here of the fellow Telfordites. Good idea on the Service items list tho, I'll do just that as we have had 3 cars of them 2 in the last 2 years....

OK it seems I get almost Jack Sh*t for my extra money on a Full Service.
At my mileage (48000 kms) 30,000 miles I am not due a 60kms Service so most are "Checks" this that and the other, and I dont yet need air filter, fuel filter or drivebelt check. I can do most checks myself except emissions and the Engine control check on Examiner.
I want them to check my brakes (its still under warranty) so they can do the front brake squeeling. I want them to do the oil and filter change.

Biggest drawback of the Silver/Bronze Service is maybe not getting my brake fluid changed.

I am now thinking along the lines of a Bronze Service after Jugs suggestion so I have a spreadsheet at the ready I will head down there later today or tomorrow and see what agreement can be reached for what costs.

replacing brake fluid is very easy to DIY, a bleed kit costs less than a fiver.

i would never let a garage change my brake fluid, they will use normal dot4 trade quality crap, i would only use super dot4 premium quality fluid, such as castrol response

Servicing is a rip off at any dealer. Find yourself a good reputable local mechanic and get friendly with him. My Stilo was serviced last week at 32k. I bought the parts, oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs for less than £25 and he serviced it for £35. He's a Fiat trained mechanic working off his driveway and he always gives the car a good once over in line with the schedule. OK, so the book doesn't get stamped but Fiats devalue so much anyway that it won't cost me anything in the long run. The car will still be worth f all at 5 or 6 years old with or without dealer history.

I am cool Steven thanx, I get my service at an independent tomorrow for 99 quid all in plus 15 quid to choose which oil I get. Going for Castrol Edge r 5w 40. I get a stamp in the book for that, they r VAT registered and will itemise the bill for the remainder of my MoT (3months) They will also reset the service indicator and I dont get my hands dirty.(y)
