Ok - here's the deal - I want to dye my hair blue (as in really bright blue, not subtle tones) and put in some silver spikes (though I'll do that with follow up paste) but refuse to pay the £60 it costs at the local hair salon.

Thus I wanna do it myself, but am a bit confused as to what I need to do.

I see loads of sites talk about bleaching your hair first, but do I need to as I have blonde hair already?

Also what type of dye should I look at, semi, demi etc etc...

Ta muchly (y)

If it's a light blonde already, you shouldn't need to bleach it...unless it's going towards the strawberry blonde.

But the easiest colour to use is Directions...fiver a pot any colour you want :D :slayer:

btw, I would go for a semi...bright hair gets boring quickly and you might wanna go for a new colour.

Lots of blue here...

Hmm.. i just took a photo, and now i'm not sure if i am blonde anymore... lol ... its got quite a lot of wax in, but this seems to be my colour now:

I'm going to a Cosplay shop this week to get it all you see, but I doubt the people there are going to be able to explain it to me :)

How long does semi take to get back out? (I usually wash my hair every day..)

Yep about 6 weeks but it will almost gone and will be pale green by then (yellow + blue) so you will have to redo it within a couple of weeks to keep it bright blue.

You hair looks like it will need to be lightened a bit if you wanted the full effect.

By lightening you mean bleached which I should buy seperately?

Or does this all come in the kits do you think?

It comes seperately. You will need a lightening kit (don't forget to do the skin test patch, they are pretty harsh)

If you look on the back of the blonde packets, it will show a colour chart for what your hair colour is and what results you can expect.

You need a permanent type one, not a tone on tone :)

Oh...really important...after lightening your hair...don't put the colour on for a couple of days/washes...or it will bleach the colour out of the blue.

I dyed my hair blue a couple of years ago with some 'salon use only' dye. My hair is mid brown, but even after dying it a couple of times it just came out as black with a blue tint :(

It also faded a bit within three weeks... :bang:

Blond(ish) hair is kind of yellow, so adding blue to yellow you get green! Would definitely advice bleaching/ lightening hair if you want a real electric blue colour.

By the way, is there a specific reason for dying your hair blue? Do those far eastern lovelies go for blue hair?!!! ;)

Cool, cheers - so if i do it tomorrow, it will be ready to dye for the weekend?

Yep will be ready for blue by then for deffo (y) You need to get it as light blonde as possible for the best result...but not white

Some kits come with a neutraliser, so you can re-dye after...but most don't, so you just need to give it time to stop working.

I dyed my hair shocking pink as soon as I stopped working after having the little one...you gotta do it (y)
