Budget - How's it affect you?

after the last budget, wasent their an increase for all cars with an engine over the size of 1.6??

So this year all those people will have an additional increase.

increase (n)

Do we know anymore info then? What engine size's will be affected etc... or are we just guessing?

I don't understand what the need is for these big 4x4's on british road 99% of the road surfaces in this country are adequate for any normal car, were not in some third world country were there aren't proper roads,etc... i hope this increase to £600 road tax is maybe even more and will get people back in to normal cars and an estate car has just as much room as a land rover  - sorry thats my gripe over it just seems people like these big 4x4 so they push they're way around on the roads :nono: well thats my experience any hoot

I think it's going to be a new higher band in the CO emmission banding system isn't it? So it'll affect newer, less environmentally-friendly cars.

yay, more tax. It's totally worth it as well, i mean the money definetly goes back into the roads - the surfaceing on all of them is perfect, no pot holes or problems at all anywhere. woohoo!

Me thinks you may be being somewhat sarcastic there young man ! :p lol

More child tax credit apparently on the cards......oh goody. Just as my 2 are leaving school !!!!

Fags and booze won't be much of an option for me this time round as been 2 years since I gave up fags and don't drink much these days either (am I getting old?!)

Great! I love paying for other peoples' kids they chose to have...

I meant to put a :devil:at the end too. ;)
Of course, if I had kids of my own I'm sure I'd feel differently about it. :p

this is what the bbc says "The Treasury is understood to be considering proposals from the RAC for a new £200 top rate of vehicle excise duty, to cover cars that produce more than 250g of carbon dioxide per kilometre". Personally i think if you own a big gas guzzling 4x4 and you dont need it (chelsea taxis), you should have to pay £1000 per year for road tax (y)

Let you off then. I don't claim anything, I struggle on a crap wage to feed 3 of us and pay a mortgage. I'd be far better off staying at home and living off benefits but I have a bit more self respect than that.

If the government choose to give me a pittance to help keep a roof over my kids' heads then that's their problem.

</rant>

If people can afford to buy big 4x4's which guzzle fuel like it's going out of fashion and pollute the environment then surely they can afford the extra in road tax and they should be made to pay for the extra damage they're doing. I doubt many of them would bat an eyelid though.

The top-rate tax won't affect me with a diesel Panda.

Also from the BBC:
"As a result this year's Budget is unlikely to contain any big surprises, such as another 1% increase in National Insurance contributions."
Good. However, will the personal allowance be increased to give us a little bit more tax-free income?

"Other green taxes being scrutinised by the Treasury include higher council tax for households throwing away too much rubbish and less for those promoting energy efficient lifestyles."
I really can't see how they're going to work that one, unless they measure how much rubbish you throw away. And if they want to promote recycling, then perhaps they should sort out the fact that the whole of Oswestry has a recycling collection scheme. Except my road, which is exempt.

this might stop 4x4 owners - what about if you own a 4x4 over 2000cc, when it reachs 3 year old you have to scrap it :chin: :D

and super car tax. If you can afford to buy something like a veyron at £800,000, you should be taxed accordingly :)

You probably are through income tax, and you will be through fuel tax (if you use the car).

How can one street be exempt from recycling? That doesn't make sense !!

I can't see how they could measure who's recycling what. We try to recycle as much stuff as we can, including clothing etc. But I'm sure others don't bother at all. My next door neighbour doesn't have a recycling bin at all and he refuses to use a wheelie bin for his rubbish. He's still leaving very UN-environmentallly friendly bin bags all over the path to be collected !!!

Are you questioning the powers that run local council? Surely these are the best and brightest people in the country? The kind of people who only manage to publish council tax charges on their website a couple of weeks before they're due.
It may not make sense, but it's fact. I still recycle though. We just have to drive to the recycling place.

You mean like our council then?! We are limited to what we can throw away, with the black wheelie bin only being able to be put out every 2nd week, and they refuse to take black sacks piled up next to the bin (n)

After Christmas, I did three trips to the local tip to get rid of all our rubbish, but that was part of a different council, so will affect their statistics instead :chin:
