3 months for hit and run killer

 :bang: Makes me sick to hear **** like this. What is happening to this country. I suppose it had to be a sentence that would keep certain folk happy. Pathetic.

3 months for being uninsured and having no license, driving a stolen car and killing a child!
someone stole a teddy bear from the little girls tributes and got 8 months!

That's not death by dangerous driving.. that's murder/manslaughter. You're only driving if you're licenced, driving legally. Write to MP time me thinks...

Not enough evidence to convict him of dangerous driving apparently, so he was charged with careless driving, which carries a max 12 week sentence. :(
Should get more than that for driving with no license and no insurance...

Was the dead child and damage to the car not enough evidence?
It's not enough to prove that someone was driving dangerously, no. Not every road death is the result of dangerous driving...
I got the sentence part wrong sorry, it was a 12 week sentence for failing to report an accident. Careless driving you can't be jailed for. The judge could have imposed 6 months for failing to report an accident, but what you're trying to do there is increase the sentence for one crime based on another crime that you can't get a conviction on, which is wrong.
I'm not trying to defend the driver in any way, just point out how the legal system works.
Failing to report an accident should carry a stiffer sentence though.

OK, but the forensics could prove that he was driving too fast (which I think he was from what i heard on the news) when he hit the child in a stolen vehicle with no licence

I know what you mean about the legal system but cases like this prove that it needs a complete overhaul (n)

Thing is if you do anything wrong while driving when you shouldn't be.. such as causing an accident or a death while disqualified - the penalty should be exponentially greater. Speeding while disqualified being a custodial sentence, failing to report an accident months in jail.. causing a death years...
