In a couple of weeks time im going on holiday with my family. We're taking two cars my Mk2b punto and my dads old ford mondeo. I want to get some breakdown cover just in case really and just for a piece of mind.

I just want to know if anyone has any recommendations of breakdown cover to choose.

we're not going out of the UK btw. Also I wiuld like to cover both cars.

I'd avoid AA never had anything but hassle,
refused to come out to mum cause one of the letters were out on number palte copied down wrong over phone.
diagnosed a auxiliary belt as a timing belt,

with rac atmo, but not had a breakdown yet

everyone will have an opinion on service

I'd do it on cost

could do something sneaky n get just one car covered, and claim he was passenger if their is a breakdown

uncles scooby broke down and he didn't have full home rescue he was 400 miles from home so had to get it sorted locally

Currently with Start rescue. Like most rescue companies, they use locals rather than relying on a fleet.

Start also have an app so theoretically, when/if you breakdown, they should be able to pinpoint you.

Different rellies have told me tales of woe with RAC and AA so I've not used either.

One of my lads told me the other year that his bank had offered him really cheap breakdown cover - might be worth asking yours?
Also, some insurance companies offer deals. And worth going through a cashback website as well.

I have AA cover through my bank which covers me and not the car so no worries about what car I'm in or where I'm going, I've milked it in the past as well had them out for friends and family, had them come to my home address etc (even though it doesn't cover home start) they even came and taped my front bumper on when I hit a dear and destroyed half the front end of the car

My Dad was with Start Rescue - rate them very highly!! Despite 2 callouts, renewal quote was a fiver less than last year!!!

I used to be with the AA. Joined at the roadside, got dragged to a local cowboy garage (£650 to do a 1.2 8v Punto HG - NOT including waterpump, new cambelt, headskim or coolant...didn't even LOOK at the car)

2nd time, HG again, M42 around 10pm. First recovery vehicle (contractor, not AA) arrives at midnight, tows me off the motorway. 3 and a half hours later, AA truck arrives to take me home. Gets as far as Kiel Services - "Out of hours mate" "Why did they send you then?"
Anyway. I finally arrived in Fleetwood exactly 12 hours after leaving Crawley. Was not happy!!

No personal quibbles with RAC :)

I've been rescued a few times, and so has my brother with bad failures

like Sized alternators, ruptured Brake lines, punched clutch and gearboxes etc etc

So yea :)

never had a road side repair - always been a tow'd home thing :(
Brother broke down in lincoln, they towed his car some miles to get it back home as well, no quibbles, but our policy is the Recovery home etc

Had some RAC vans, had hired out ones
the hired out ones can be a little slow, and not always from the area

ziggy
