UK: Nation of fatties

6 feet 2 inches tall and 17 and a half stone. Yes I class myself as over weight even though most people tell me I'm not.

Reading through this thread again & although the OP pulled no punches & was a tad to the point, as usual some have taken this personally. The UK does have a weight problem. Forget any charts, forget any statistics, use your eyes. It's healthy to have discussions, it's also good to have other points of view, but it seems there are some on here that take some topics/discussions very personal indeed.

Getting back to the weight issue, part of my wife's job entails her visiting some students at their place of work ie nursery. More pre school kids than ever are quite podgy & as my wife says when you meet the parents, or more often than not these days single parent, there lies your answer. Education is a great tool if you catch the kids young enough. Sadly some parents don't feel that this is down to them.

In a PC environment these days you have to be sympathetic & choose your words carefully & encourage. As my wife says you can't say you have a fat kid do something about it.:D Sadly with all the modern "tech" we have nowadays & all the knowledge that's on hand, some kids don't stand a chance right from the start.

LOL @ all the dislikes I got for it!

Every 1 in 4 of us is overweight. That is a terrible, terrible fact, and something needs to be done.

The mentality we have as a nation is embarassing, in terms of health and fitness.

Look close, I'm sneezing ... :D

Don't look much like a don now, grown myself a huge mexican porn star looking mustache for "Movember", raised £103 so far.

£93 so your beating me atm! Longer hair + moustache = Porn star! Picture attached!

I am 6ft 8", 17.5 Stone, or 110kg roughly and that should put me nearer obese than overweight on the BMI scale. (incidentally BMI scale stops at 6ft 6" lol)

If I got down to the 16.5 Stone I am meant to be at my normal weight max I reckon I would be rather slim!

EDIT: Yes I do believe that we are "fat" and will only get fatter as the availability of food increases and humans being lazy increases as well

@ the last comment in MJ's last post, i could make a comment on that but i am not for fear of starting a rant. *thinks back to what happend in the "what made you grumpy today" thread* :/

well because of this thread i am now trying to loose a some weight. try to get rid of the "beer gut".. hmm it just shows its not caused by beer. i dont drink any alcohol at all. (last time i was p155ed was when i was 14.. 9 years ago, and heh yeah that was my first time getting p155ed. lol)

6ft 8? **** me! I see why you are called 'TallTom'! lol

Who decides what is overweight and what isn't? BMI is a load of rubbish.

Looking at the photo, how much weight would you say I need to shift to be classed as 'normal' in the BMI ranges?

In that photo I weighed 103.9kg/16 stone 5 lbs.

To be classed as 'normal', I would need to weigh 93.9kg/14 stone 11lbs.

I currently weigh around 99.8kg/15 stone 10lbs, yet have a body fat percentage of below 20%, which is classed as 'normal'. Which suggests that its muscle (around 40% at the moment), but BMI says I'm overweight and thats bad!

My aim is to get down to 95.3kg/15 stone, hopefully not too much longer!

Oh, the second photo is me as a fat **** at 21 stone 5lbs .

Aye I'm a fat git - the way I see it, is it's paid for so I'll eat what I like. I don't smoke, drink or take drugs so it's my one vice / outlet.

I am however unhappy with my size now so Jan is my goal to start the gym again and aim for 1stone a month loss until I've lost 6-7stone :).

Just to clarify I don't not like fat people, it's not about that.

My dad is fat (more of a beer belly), my step-dad is fat (same as dad), my gran and grandad are fat.

It's actually quite sad to watch them struggle with every day life, and it's even sadder to think they might not be around for much longer because of this. Being overweight has massive implications as you get older, and it's quite selfish if you have family to not consider the pain you might put them through sooner rather than later.

It's so easy, go for a walk!

I never take things personally on the forum, but there are some who do as I've said before. Sadly things can & do get personal. Obviously there are some on here that have met others & there are in house jokes, that's all fine. Sitting behind the computer screen is a safe place, I think we all know that.

Some spats on here can be quite amusing, others turn plain nasty & abusive. Getting back to the OP It would be safe to say we all know someone who is fat, this is very much in evidence these days, once upon a time it was spot the fat man.

A stone a month will be very hard, easy for the first couple of stone, but I've been trying to shift my last stone and a half since the end of August, and stayed the same pretty much.
