Do you still 'fill her up'?

Something isnt quite right there (unless im reading it wrong).

Yes, Force = mass x acceleration (F=ma)

so, if you have more mass you get less acceleration, more fuel doesnt give more acceleration. What i think you mean is with more fuel in the tank, therefore increased mass, you need to increase revs to give the same acceleration (up to a limit). As the revs are increased the fuel consumption also increases.

Does anyone notice much difference in mpg with a full tank and a nearly empty tank, dont think i ever have.

Nah its barely anything. Think about it, 1 litre of water is 1kg and petrol weighs nearly the same, so a 40 litre tank, is only ever at most around 40kg heavier on a car that weighs about 1100kg (with you and your belongins in it). This is about 4% extra weight, so not a lot of difference imo.

Yeah, its such a minor difference in total weight its effects on fuel consumption are negligible. There are more important factors that effect fuel consumption.

Didn't think it would make any noticeable difference, just thought i'd ask to see if people thought otherwise.

i dont 'fill her up' anymore it cost too much and if i have petrol i use it going to random places miles away for no reason and use all of it.

i always fill mine right to the brim, means i spend less time at the garage, plus if theres a strike ever after ive filled up, i still have a good 450 mile range before filling up. costs me abut £50 or so every time from just going into red

Yup, always fil it right up. My daily driver runs on petrol or LPG. When its really empty it'll take nigh on 70 litres of petrol and 52 litres of LPG. A few weeks back I forgot I switched it onto petrol, so I ran both tanks nearly dry. Cost me damn near 100 quid to fill it up both tanks. Painful....

i love filling her up to the brim, but i rarely do it... usually i put £30 in at a time, and hope it lasts me all week.... i hate forking out cash for fuel, it somehow makes me feel better if i dont put as much in at a time :D

seriously, our government **** me off with their stupid taxes... they should just learn how to manage money more efficiently

I pretty much fill mine up every time I put petrol in, but I do let it get closer to empty than I used to (so normally ends up being £50+ and rarely make it over 300 miles!!!) . I use it no more quicky or slowly if it's full, so over the course of a month I spend the same amount. Just goes on a credit card and gets paid off every month.

I'm interested to see how the SLK consumption compares to the coupe (hopefully better in summer as I'll have the roof open rather than the ac on :slayer: )

I put in £10 at a time, get about 65-70 miles out of that but i'm putting £10 in every other day

I do 36 miles a day just on the school run and thats without any trips to the shops or visiting etc, so my car is costing a fortune.

One day i will get a diesel but can't bring myself to part with Barney yet, plus, in September my youngest goes to school full time so school run will only be 24 miles a day (y)

Well I just filled her up from very empty (needles was off the bottom of the red . And it took £49!!!!!. In March 05 when i got the car it cost £33.50 from empty to the brim!.

Last time I checked it was a smalled engined hatch back not a fuel guzzleing executive saloon :(. I'd hate to think how much it would cost to brim my Alfa 156 if I still had it! £80 im guessing!.

I put 30 quid in the clio a week, costs about 65quid to fill up and theres no way I'm spending that much in one go lol. When the starlet was on the road was about 15quid every 2 days but cost 30quid to fill it up.

I fill her up to the brim every time... don't see the point in only putting a bit in, plus with the way prices are going it's more expensive each and every time so i may aswell get as much as cheap as i can:(

i never fiill past half way to keep the weight down, improving performance and fuel economy. the only time i do fill up is when i am doing a mpg calculation.

if i can afford to i will fill it up right to the top if i cant then i dont, most the i will fill right to the top although the past few times i haven't because its just to expensive plus only working part time means i dont have the money to!

the only thing about onlyfilling up half way is you have to fill up more often whereas if i put a full tank in my GP it lasts me about a week, half a tank lasts me 2 days!
