I know this is one of the oldies but, my stepdaughter is ready to buy her first car.

She has 2k to play with, she is 18 and i have managed to steer her away from a white Citroen Saxo with 2 bald front tyres and blacked out windows, no tax and the daft bugger was willing to pay 2k for.

Can you suggest a similar car suitable for a first timer (about a 1.2) low insurance group sensible etc but still with that 'i'm 18 and cool' element?

can get a nice mk2 punto with abs for that easy

Thats what i was thinking to be honest and at one point she did mention Punto's, i'm just trying to widen the market for her and my brain doesn't really work much past Fiats

So anything newer than that and stylish (i hate clio, saxo, metro, corsa, fiesta lol)

51 plate punto should be easy to find for that price with abs an driver an pasenger airbags, she is a girl so a sporting wont be too much on insurance either

cheers, to be honest thats just what i wanted to hear. I can't stand the thought of her owning a saxo

A saxo at that price is way too much, a nice mk2 punto would be best bet, and as Dave said, insurance wouldn't be too much for HER either

bravo=3 door Brava = 5 door both based on tipo (not uno) and as such is superior to its successor the stilo:nerner:. pretty much all you need to know i think

mk2 punto sporting
(dont bother with lower spec models, they're crap in comparison)

if insurance says no, they go for a clio 2000 or later. the base models of the clio are better than the base models of the punto.
