Hi all, just got some confusion over insurance costs, not sure if anyone can provide justification as to why there are such huge differences, but here it is.

Firstly, I am currently insured with adrian flux, third party, for £1500.

Im not going to post my NCB, age etc as is probably irrelevant for this.

For the comparison, we used my mate's MK3 Golf GTi.

He is currently insured with Admiral, fully comp, with 1 named driver for £1300.

To compare, we used the exact same occupation, postcode etc etc. Everything exactly the same.

First quote for me, fully comp, same details as my mate:
Insurance1.PNG
£12510, many insurers not quoted a price

Second, third party:
insurance 3.PNG
£4251

To confirm these prices, I rang and did quotes directly (over 15 companies) and most would not insure me fully comp.

How is it possible for him to be insured for £1300 with a company that will not even insure me fully comp, using similar details. Additionally, out of the 20+ companies I did ring, nearly all would not insure me fully comp on my grande punto.

Their calculations are extremely odd.

I understand young drivers will be more expensive, but how can one guy differ so much to somebody else living at the same postcode. Crazy.

Admiral do great discounts for multi-anything quotes. They knocked off 1000 off my quote for adding my girlfriend whom I live with as a named driver. Could this be the case for your mate as well?

Add an adult (could be a parent) to your policy, will reduce your premium. Works even now for me and I am over 30! :confused:

actually thats the most relevant thing in relation to your question, if all you are changing is your age and driving experience keeping everything else the same then that is exactly where the difference arises.

so with that said I decided to get a quote which would prove my point my punto with admiral is about £260 a year (without any extras) so I changed the car and nothing else too see what i would be quoted

see attached pic and possibly cry when you realise the car I got a quote on. (bearing in mind my house is city centre with on street parking)

its all down to age, experience and your ability to not crash and make a claim very little of the premium is based on anything else. two other big factors I suppose are the voluntary excess and the annual mileage.

the highest I was quoted on that car from the 50 companies who would cover me was £4314.94 which is still less than your TPFT on a golf gti

Sorry I should have been more clear.

Me and my mate are the same age, and passed within months of each other.

For the purpose of the quote (with companies that don't previously hold my information, even though they probably do secretly) I used the exact same driving details as my mate...hence why I said NCB etc arent relevant.

I understand age/ability/likelihood of crashing, but with the same details, the prices couldn't be further apart. And, obviously, no company will willingly/are capable of explaining the reasoning behind it.

It really doesnt matter as I replicated his driving experience on the phone/website but:

NCB = 2 years
License held = 2.5 years
Point = 0
Accidents = 0
Postcode = same
Car = same
Parked overnight = same
Milage = 10k
Other = same

So everything is the same appart from your name?

And just to check was it your address or your friends address you used?

You won't be coming up on a credit check at his address if its his you've used, hence the price. Your a higher risk as they can tell your trying to get a quote based on deception ;)

correct mate...and iv used his address and other people's lol.

I seriously do not know what it is

other people can get a quote at my address and get back £1500.

I'll **** bricks if I ever see £1500

It really does seem like further checks are being made in the background. It's been like it ever since I started getting quotes (at 17)

There are, credit checks being that main one which does influence premiums.

Sam, are you declaring the mods? if your putting your suspension more than 5cm lowered, it wacks allot on your premium

all mods declared, adrian flux are a speciialist company and do not charge for such mods mate

seriously i never knew that?

i do have a perfect credit history so don't know how it would be a contributing factor...obviously something is though and ill probably never know what

im not mad or anything, just confused, and when I change my title to 'miss', dont even go there ;)

The fact you don't live at the address is going to be the massive factor in you NOT having a perfect credit history.

You may at your home address, but as I doubt you've had any credit in your name at your mates address, it's going to be coming up as an extremely poor credit history. Hence price difference! I suspect you mate might also have a good credit history, but that will be at the address your quoting ;)

:cool: have you been a naughty boy in the past ; they check with the dvla you know ,if not search car mags they advertise specialist companies for the young who want to drive fast cars.
