Yes, they may say its fine and not class it as a modification, others will class it as a mod. For the sake of a phone call.

They might be fine, or they'll charge admin fee's to update your policy. Usually about £50. Most people i know with them don't bother.. still worth a phone call.

in which case, everyone who has a FiatForum sticker in their windows needs to inform their insurance?

Size wise its not to different to a dealer sticker. Not big enough to be classed as a decorative change, where as those stickers or something that takes up the majority or one panel, or more than one is

Re: Decal Stickers / Insurance Mod?

In other words, some devious money grabbing insurance company has decided that a large decal will increase your chances of having an accident or the car being stolen or encourage the driver to drive faster etc.
In which case, I wonder just how many self employed people have informed their insurance when they stick a sign across their rear window or on a body panel - and will insurance still be happy to pay out?
This is just absolutely stupid. next thing they'll be telling us we're not allowed to use seat covers without informing them & it'll end where we have to contact them before each and every journey to inform them where we're going & what route we plan to take.

Wouldn't the car already have business cover on it anyway - I know mine does - so the increased premium may already cover for any promotional stickers, if used.

Well if we're honest, the car with the decals is going to stand out more to thieves/vandals than a standard car, hence the increase in risk to the insurers.

To clarify the position of my company, and bare in mind I can only offer a strictly speaking answer, we ask customers to let us know about all changes to their vehicle, this include decals. We would not charge an admin fee or rise in premium unless the car has been completely covered with stickers, eg a rally replica. I dont see any issue with that personally.

As Stu has mentioned, business use may already cover advertising decals etc.

The way you need to look at this is that large decals / advertising will attract attention from pedstrians when parked, and when driving other road users who may be trying to get near to it to see what the decals are, or the details of the advertising. This potentially could cause them to crash into you in the process, or you try and swerve to avoid a collision with said driver and then be involved in a collision yourself.

That is the effect of decals and stickers, and that is why insurance need to be notified, incase they're not happy taking on this risk.

Regarding dealer and FF stickers, at 50mph down a motorway etc, no one is going to notice them due to their size, a panel of advertising will be noticed though.

Re: Decal Stickers / Insurance Mod?

Better not put go faster stripes on a car then, or they will put your premiums up as you will be able to drive faster.

Do we have to declare air fresheners too?

.

LOL. I don't think I've ever heard of an accident attributed to someone trying to get a close-up of a decal or advert!

I assume you've never heard of certain men ever being distracted by a pretty lady walking down the pavement in a bikini

Oh the joys of living on the coast in the summer

It is called 'distraction' - I suggest you look it up; it is a common cause of road accidents/claims.
