it changes all the time and depends on a lot of things

the area you live is a contributing factor
where its kept day and night makes a diffrence
even the colour can make a diffrence even if its not much

just about everything you fill out on the form makes a diffrence in one way or another

im guessing your using a comparison site?

Actually, that's not as bad as some quotes I got!! Even at 21, my insurance on a similar car to yours is £1100 p/a with my Dad on it (his presence made no difference - guess I'm too old for that )

I've also added my Mum and Little Sister (both on provisionals) at no extra cost.

And as jiP0 said, every little helps. Even the difference between an 8-valve and a 16-valve engine can make a difference. (I had one come back at almost £500 MORE for the 16v version of my car).

The best way to reduce your insurance cost in the long term is: don't crash!! (or make any claims lol). Pass Plus is a good idea (made no difference to me, again, too old lol). Some insurers will also give a discount if you pass your Advanced Driving.

Best of luck to you bud. Entering the motoring world is bloody expensive!! (But worth it (y))

yeah the 16v version of my car was an extra £3000

and liek you haveing parents on the insurance done nothing and pass plus saved liek £100 and it would of cost more then that to do it

but it is more then worth it!

i just want mine to go down :( as i am running a car and a motorbike now lol

if youv brought it, it wont go down till next year im afraid

if you avent then just get tons of quotes from all the diffrent comparison sites

it might be worth giveing the insurance comapny that gives the best quote a ring just before they shut that can sometimes work

Im 23 and when i first got the car in 2007 with a 56 reg, i thought oh gawd insurance!
Pass plus did nothing for me at all. My dad saved me a lot of money with going on. It also saves you alot if you pay all in one and not monthy.
I was with elephant at first and it was £575, 2nd year they put it up, so i went with churchill and it came down to £433 and thats fully comp. Look around and get quotes until you get the right one. Im due renewal with Churchill in December.

The first thing I would do if at all possible only put yourself on the insurance as if your Mam and Dad are approaching the 50's it sometimes actually goes up instead of down, like mine did!

I had a years named driver discount and me as main driver for a 1.2 57 reg grande punto active come in at £1200 plus interest making it about £1300 or £115 a month. This was in June 09.
I recently re-did the same quote out of interest with the same company and it is in excess of £1800 which suggests to me that now is a bad time to buy as it is Christmas and young drivers buy cars and they price insurance up to make money! Maybe you could hold off a little longer to see what happens?

You could try to play insurance companies off and say that so and so quoted this month to get the price down especially if they guarantee to beat someone else quote.

Your job title can make a difference as well.

I'm a driver, I drive buses, coaches, lorries etc etc depending upon where I'm needed.
When I do the comparison sites, I put down driver to see which comes up cheapest then I go into the site and try bus driver, coach driver etc. Sometimes one job title will give a better quote than another for some really strange reason.

Also look at what level of excess you can afford. I've never had a prang so am reasonably confident that I can keep this up so opted for the max of £500.
Insurers often make a lot of assumptions about you as well. Check the small print of the quote. I told my company I would never take my car abroad, that reduced my premiums.
I believe you can also have things fitted to your cars as well (younger drivers) and not take the car on the roads after a certain time etc.
You may even get a discount for a camera (DVR)?
You could also go for advanced driving as well (IAM or similar) - insurers used to offer good discounts for IAM members.

Paying installments can really bump up your premium as well. The insurance co will often add a huge lump onto the premium for monthly payment - maybe cheaper to get a bank loan?
