Hi, have just replaced the standard 5x7 door speakers in my 1997 Marea Weekend with a pair of Kenwood 17cm units and as far as I can see there are no clues on the existing speakers or speaker cables as to the polarity of the cables... Anyone out there know which cables are + or - so I can ensure the speakers are connected correctly....

Thanks

Looks like I have solved this myself....

Front Right = + Pink n black
- Black n purple

Front Left = + white n black
- red n yellow

Found the answer on another web site....

Will try out at the weeekend.....

I got a pair of Kenwood KFC-1760S 17cm speakers...... Only £35.00...
The speakers are mounted on 3 small hard plastic blocks, the type you use for fixing shelving units or corner blocks on cupboards.... With a bit of jigling around you can use 3 of the existing mounting holes on the door panel... I was not too worried about drilling out the fourth hole as I was in a rush as it was getting dark..!!

Passenger side door panel fitted back with no problems, drivers door panel sticks out about 5mm where it just catches the bottom of the speaker mount but again it was getting dark so with a bit of jigling I might have been able to move the speaker up slightly. I need to recheck the polarities this weekend as I think I have got them wrong, hence my original posting, and will see if I can get the drivers panel fitted without hitting the speaker at all...

hey,

i am also in this project. bougth a pair of speakers and trying to figure out which wires is what. any luck on the wires color code and polarity?

if so, pls share. at the moment, i 'pause' my speaker installation with door panels removed. :(

thks.

Hi, the wire polarities are listed in my second posting.... I got the sides muddled up but the colour codes and polarities are correct..( according to the info I found else where on the web ).
I must admit though that I was very disappointed with the sound of the new speakers and have actually refitted the standard Fiat ones as they sound 10 times better than the new ones..!!!! Far better Bass etc....
My original reason to update the speakers was because the left door speaker made an awful booming/vibrating sound when played at a reasonable volume and I thought it was damaged... Turns out this vibration was due to the plastic inner door lining that was so tight it was acting as a big drum and vibrating like mad... I made numerous holes in the plastic lining and gaffer taped over to deaden the sound and SORTED.... No booming no vibrating...
Sounds much better now and that's using the original speakers....

hi 20V,

thks for the reply. the color is correct, just the side is not right. our original speakers does sounds better because it is a component set. i believe the frequency respond will be better too and match well with our ori HU.

i get myself a set of 5.25" Nakamichi 2 ways speaker which can't produce bass as like ori. but with very good clarity. after all, it is consider a mid with tweeter.

i would like to get a 5"X7" ori size speakers but it is a very odd size for Malaysian market. therefore, no choice for me n only can get 5.25" speaker without cutting job.

if u really want to replace your ori, just get a low wattage speakers like 60W max and don't go for hi power speakers. our HU will not have enough juice to pump it. also, look for hi sensitivity speaker like 90dB.

good luck and have fun...thanks again.
