Hi to all. I have a problem and I need some help.... A friend gave me from his grande punto the factory mp3 player and I want to place it to my grande punto....
I have the code but I can't enter it. When I turn it on, on the screen 'CANCHECK' is indicated..... Does anyone know something to help me....?

Hi welcome to the forum (y) are you Greek if you are your english is very good.
Which HU do you have that may help somebody with the code entering process.

Hi. Yes I am Greek.... I will send you tomorrow my mp3's model.....I don't remember it now... Thank you for your reply!
Panos

I read somewhere (on FF?) that the HU is matched to the ECU (CAN system) of the car it is fitted in and will only work in that car unless decoded.

Yes i believe that the code is stored on the body computer but this is not the problem that the OP is having. I think he is struggling with the Code entry process. This is not something that i know much about but there are a couple of people who i can think of that i believe would know so i am trying to prepare all of the necessary information for them.

You may find this useful (taken from official Dealer manual)

Anti-theft code

The radio is installed in production and is connected to the CAN in order to establish communication with the Body Computer memorizing an anti-theft code known as an Exchange Code.
At each subsequent Key On (and even if the battery is disconnected), an automatic authentication procedure is repeated: the words "CAN CHECK" appear in the radio display: if the Exchange Code check is positive, the system begins to operate. If the codes compared are not the same, a message appears on the display asking the user to enter a manual code (Master Code - 4-figure code from 1111 to 6666) that is shown on the radio code card.

The Master Code is pre-programmed in production and is different for each radio. It is also different from the Exchange Code.

Entering the secret code
When the radio is switched on, if there is a code request, the word "CODE" will appear on the display for about 2 seconds followed by four dashes "----".
The secret code is made up of four digits between 1 and 6, each corresponding to one of the dashes.
To enter the first digit of the code, press the button corresponding to the pre-selection stations (from 1 to 6). Enter the other digits of the code in the same way.
If the four figures are not entered within 20 seconds, the display again shows the message "CODE" for 2 seconds and then the four dashes "----". This is not considered as incorrect entering of the code.
After entering the fourth digit (within 20 seconds), the car radio will start to work.
If an incorrect code is entered, the radio will give out an acoustic warning, the word "CODE" will appear on the display for 2 seconds and then four dashes "----" to indicate that the user needs to enter the correct code.
After three attempts the radio considers the last code as "incorrect"; each time the user enters an incorrect code, the waiting time increases gradually (1 min, 2 min, 4 min, 8 min, 16 min, 30 min, 1h, 2h, 4h, 8h, 16h, 24h) to a maximum of 24 hours. The waiting time is shown on the display with the words "RADIO BLOCKED, WAIT".
After the writing has disappeared it is possible to start the procedure of entering the code again

Sorry for butting in on someone else's thread, but that says to me that disconnecting my HU will not mean that I need to enter in a code, as the HU & car should recognise each other, yeah?

Yeah in theory. If the two codes match the radio works, if not then it asks for the code. If the input code matches with the one stored in the body computer then bobs your uncle, if its a different stereo the code won't match then bobs your next door neighbour lol. Even if you have the correct code for the replacement stereo it must match the stored one. Think of it as like having 2 keys to open a lock, both are needed or it won't unlock. Hope explanation is ok (y)

I think that the body computer asks the HU if the code is needed and if it is needed then the HU will tell the body comp wether it has been entered correctly or not, if correct the computer says OK if not then computer says noooooo.

So the two codes are not unique to each other. The body computer just asks for a correct code to be input. I misinterpreted the meaning then
