Currently have a two month old Dualogic and last night as I was reversing into my parking spot the gearbox made an enormous grinding sound as I stepped on the accelerator (which sounded like the car was in extreme pain and didn't move anyway). Its happened once or twice randomly before - what the hell is wrong with it?

Yep.. I also have a similar problem when moving off from standstill - the gearbox grinds for a second or two when going from first to second. Then the problem disappears after about 10 - 15 minutes of driving. This problem only happens when I haven't driven the car for say, two or three days. Any ideas? :)

Mmm interesting,I have had puntos with grinding noises as you say after sitting for a day or two & especially when reversing but it wasn't the gearbox.
I'll check around for you in the meantime,if you get it sorted let us know what you/garage finds (y)

Thanks mate - appreciate it~ My car is booked in for some checks tomorrow, and hopefully I will be able to pick it up on Friday (so they can replicate the forward grind); will keep you posted :)

Actually this year wasn't that hot; weather was quite easy going. Hope you had a good one :)

Well, apparently this is a software glitch and also apparently is normal operation/not doing any damage. If you're interested feel free to read about my misfortunes today at https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto/88808-our-5-5-hour-ordeal-two-month-old-gp-dualogic.html

This 'grinding' happened again just now as I was reverse parking into my spot. Interesting to note this has only ever happened at my apartment's parking spot and nowhere else, so I'm starting to think its possible that its the tyres that are grinding on the ground, rather than the gearbox? Sometimes in shopping mall car parks the ground is quite smooth and people screech their tyres; I reckon it could be similar to that (though my place doesn't have smooth ground, similar principle nonetheless).

No takers on this one? It just happened again downstairs and this time I'm definitely sure its not because of the ground.

Ok this is a bit disturbing: just tried to reverse park, changed to R, stepped on the accelerator, it didn't move and grinded, thought "Ok it does it every now and then". Then tried stepping on it again, still wouldn't move and as more I stepped on it the more it grinded - sounded like it was in excruciating pain. Gave it a few seconds, and it was fine again.

Read on some other post it has something to do with the linkage (?) and its normal. But the above definitely didn't sound right...
