Styling Problem with my Sportings Alloys...

I don't want to disappoint you,....but I think it may take you a while until you have your new alloys delivered,......there is a big shortage of these alloys in Italy....(n)

Yesterday I called Fiat in Italy to ask If I could order a set for my GP and what they told me is that at the moment they had only 3 wheels in stock!!!!!!!

I don't see any reason for telling lies,....(they would get money,...)

So,...I hope you are lucky and your dealer is good and have yr wheels soon,...

Dealers rang me today, i gotta go over tomorrow and they're gonna order me a brand new set of sporting alloys :D:D:D

Wish you were closer Jason, managed to christen my new wheels last sunday with 2 small chips out of the off side front wheel, I would have swapped a wheel with you.....

Its good to know that someone else has the same problem, well if you know what i meen ;)

Will be bringing this up with the dealer tomorrow when my car goes in for numerous waranty repairs:mad: , but my wheels look the same as yours, mind some are worse than others.

Nice if i can get a new set of alloys, even nicer if they would let me hold out for a year or so then get them replaced so a new set (i wish)

I have read smewhere that the problem with alloys is caused by some alloy cleaners that are ACID-BASED!!!!!:bang: (n)
So be careful when you wash the new ones.

Bob, have the wheel nuts in your picture corroded aswell?

Mine look like that too (white)?

hey guys how u know if the alloy cleaner is acid based? i use a turtle wax one and its started to make my wheels get little black dots on them. im getting worried!

No i dont think my bolts have corroded...

I have the new wheels on now and surprisingly the centre caps are just a tiny bit more forward so the lip of the centre hole isnt on show....

Also the finish on the sides of the spokes look different, so hopefully these ones wont corrode

I wont be using any alloy wheel cleaner on them, just gonna do them regulary with soapy water...

Get some wheel wax on them, it will make them even easier to clean with soapy water:)

Waxing your 'alloys' is the best thing that you can do and the place where it's most needed.....people don't do it because it's such hard work!
It would save them sooo much grief though.

I used to wax my Clio Williams' alloys. I'd agree that it made them easier to clean on a regular basis, but you need a good few hours to take the wheels off and to wax them properly in the first place. I just used a normal blended wax (Meguiar's Stage 2 IIRC).

Hi there in England, I'm Tony from the Netherlands and have the same problem with my 17" rims. Also i take a trip to my dealer and they want to replace my rims for new one. They have taken photo's and sent them to Fiat.nl

I hope that my new rims soon be there...

It is caused by salt on the road, its not only the Fiat wheels, after market wheels go the same way,the salt attacks the laqueur cracks it and dirt gets underneath,I have TSW catalunya's on mine and they are going the same way, apparently as long as your wheels are not kerbed (even if its well away from the salt damaged area ) they should replace them if under 12 months old,if they won't sale of goods act ( not of merchantable quality ) should cover them.you would be entitled to a replacement or money back, you want a replacement.just a thought.john

Hi

I have corrosion marks on all of my GP Sportings 17" alloys. The car is still only 10 months old, 2006 06 Reg, and noticed these marks when cleaning yesterday. They were not there when I cleaned it last...(2 weeks ago) Strangely, It is worse on the 2 offside wheels than the 2 nearside. I have only ever used car shampoo soapy water to clean them & am bloody disappointed that there are signs of wear & tear after such a short time. I have just been reading the posts following your thread & intend to go to my dealership too. They need to sort it...seems like a lot of owners will probably suffer similar probs.

regards

The wifes car has this problem too on all four wheels. The Fiat area rep called out to the house to see the car (organised by the dealer (y)) and he has agreed to have all four wheels refurbished. He said he has seen this on one other car here in N.Ireland and approved a wheel refurb and all has been fine since. The car is due for a service soon so I'l try and organise it for then.

Same here too, i'm booked into Gainmanor in North Shields this afternoon for them to have a look. Mine have just started to go, but there is evidence of it on all four wheels...
