anyone know what the service life of the auxiliary belt tensioner (on 16v DOHC engine with aircon) is?

I'm going to be changing the belt, so my question is if it makes sense to change the tensioner at the same time? Or is there something I can do to check it for wear whilst i'm changing the belt?

Hi,

this is not as important as the cam belt service when we'd replace everything including the water pump 'to be on the safe side'. Once the accessories belt is removed, just check the tensioner for free rotation/no bearing noise, if in doubt replace it, if you're far away from parts shop, replace it while doing the belt as prevention...

BRs, Bernie

If someone here helped You fix -or better, understand- your issue, hit the thanks icon @ bottom right corner, it's free and makes us feel helpy ;-)

ps: keep the old one if still feeling good, it might be helpfull in the future ;-)

Thanks Bernie, I'll give it a check over first I think and can pick one up if it is noisy or worn
