Hi guys,

Can shock absorbers fail in away that they make the car look higher? Because I’ve noticed on the front the gap between the wheel and the Arches are high, There’s no sign of leakage, that’s why I wondered can they fail and make the car ride height high?

NO:

a shock absorber - better called a damper - is basically a piston (wheel hub connection) moving in a cylinder (body connection) full of oil. This piston has small holes that communicate on both sides so as it moves in the cylinder, the oil is forced through the tiny holes creating friction that dampen the motion. The length is the result of the car's weight against the springs force...

Would springs for a Diesel punto be different to a petrol punto? Reason I ask when I brought the car I noticed an invoice for 2 new front springs being fitted December 2018,

If there different, it makes me wonder if the wrong springs are on the car. Because the height doesn’t look right to me

The diesel engine is heavier, so will use stronger springs. Diesel springs on a petrol car will sit higher. Similarly, petrol springs on a diesel car will sit lower and hit the stops more easily, always feeling soft. Either is likely to change the handling characteristics and could be unsafe.

Does it feel hard on the front?

As said earlier:

So weaker spring OR heavier car(engine) = lower body and O.C. vice-versa...
