Hey guys,

So I know this is probably a real long shot but just wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to fit air conditioning on a Grande Punto Active that wasn't fitted with it at factory by using all of the parts from another Grande Punto that had is on?

It would be like a massive DIY project, just wondering if its possible or not and if anyone has done anything like this before?

Cheers

I'd say yes ...

(very) basically, AC is just a compressor and an evaporator, a few pipes, wires and air flaps.

The compressor is driven by the auxilliary belt (alternator's) which is specific.
It has an electric clutch to (dis)engage.
The evaporator is located near the heater matrix.
The flaps will manage the air flow according to driver's wishes.

All parts should be available from the donnor, my only concern would be about the electronics, i.e a fully automated (high trim) AC might require another body computer...
Anyway you'll have to go thru an official AC agreed mech to refil the system.

It is possible but if you are not going to do the work be prepared to pay about 400-700 euro for somebody to fit it.

So definitely not worth it.

If you are going to do it yourself:
As long as you can get all the necessary parts from a donor car, and you can get them for cheap and they work...
It might be worth doing it... you will need a specialist to empty the donor car and refill the system... but apart from that ... it;s possible.

Be aware that you will need to have a look at the wiring system.. it's a bit more complicated than a simple start button... there will be a few relays there is a pressure switch .... might be more.

Download eLearn and have a look.. (you might need a different engine compartment fuse box)

It will definitely not be a one day job... you might be able to get it installed in about 3 days, one day for removing/replacing the interior components, then another day to fit the compressor, the evaporator pipes etc...the third day getting the electrical part done, tested etc.
There will be some fabrication involved.. the radiator might be different.. you might not have all the exact support brackets ..etc

You asked if it was possible, no-one said it would be easy ;-) But that would be a nice project though
