Hi guys,

Bad day yesterday, I have a 2010 Fiat Grande Punto 1.4L Petrol with just over 84K on the clock. I had to be towed home yesteday as it appears my clutch has had it. I've booked it in for a clutch replacement on Saturday, but i'm hearing conflicting reports that it might be something else and I was just wondering if someone would be able to hazzard a guess at what they think it is.

The car is undrivable, it wont go into any gear, its making an awful squeeking noise and stinks of burning. Before it went completly, I could feel the engine revs in the clutch pedal and the pedal felt different almost spongy like.

Before it went for about 6 months ive found it increaingly more difficult to engage 1st gear or the reverse gear with the reverse gear even making a crunching noise sometimes despite wating a few seconds before selecting the gear.

Obviously first thoughts are that the clutch is toast given the high milage on the car, but i'm also hearing that it coud be the master or slave cylindar or even the flywheel. Does anyone know just i'm a student and the clutch replacement is gunna cost £250.00 which is a lot of money for me. Thank You guys.

No gear, undrivable, awful noise...

Sounds like the thrust bearing has gone through the spring diaphragm, haven't noticed strange noise when shifting gears before it died ??
Anyway, disk, mechanism and thrust bearing should be replaced all together; hopefully there is no other dammage (flywheel)..

BRs, Bernie

The mechanic i'm using said he's ordered in a full clutch kit (Release bearing and presure plate) so should cover that job. Can the flywheel sometimes be taken out with this kind of damage and if so how much am I looking at for a flywheel? Cheers Jacob

Don't worry sounds like your mechanic knows what they are doing and at a good price.
The flywheel almost certainly fine because you haven't driven it loads with clutch slipping.
