Got to love the simplicity of the Multijet engine :)

Managed to change the timing belt and pulleys on my GP in 2.5 hours at the weekend :D Quickest i've done one in a long time

After a long few years driving other makes, i'm back in a Fiat for the time being. Bought a 2006 GP Sporting MultiJet rather cheap with very low mileage for it's age. Bargained down due to it not having any sign of a cambelt change in it's history, so cracked on with it myself. Rather easy job

Glad to hear you're enjoying your purchase :) the 1.9's a rock solid engine, no wonder it's used in everything under the sun, just such a shame that with the GP it's paired with one of the worst gearboxes in history! Do yourself a favour and change the gearbox oil on it asap with some good stuff (I use Fuchs Titan Sintofluid 75w80), the transmission fluid it comes with just isn't up to the job.

After just buying the missus a 56 plate 1.9 LJ GP with no cambelt history I am hoping to do the cambelt and water pump next time I am home.
Did you find there was need to change the pulleys as well? Or did you do it for belts and braces. Also was there a requirement for cam lock plates or can it be done without?
Any pictures whilst doing the job or indeed a little write up would be great, I will do one when I get the chance to do the job? Would appreciate a heads up on any potential hiccups. I havent even seen the car yet, but by all accounts the other half absolutely loves it.

I did the pulleys and water pump at the same time. Seems daft not to do them at specified intervals as damage could result if an old one fails.

I did mine without locking tools. Straight-forward as long as you can see the timing marks clearly. Get a copy of eLearn from the downloads section, it will help massively.

One thing to look out for...... To help remove the crank pulley bolts, pop the gearbox into 4th, then have your missus keep her foot on the brake pedal. This helps stop the engine rotating while you are undoing the 4 bolts holding the pulley in place. Do this again when refitting it.

Also, if the crank pulley won't budge after removing the 4 bolts, don't be tempted to use a hub puller to remove it (it has a rubber damper between the bell and the outer face). Just use a rubber mallet and tap the inner bell of the pulley to free it and it will eventually come off.
