I have had my grande punto now for at least 3 years and I have changed most of the common faults.
Its on a 2006 plate. I would just like to share that the front window drains are not fit enough and fully developed by Fiat. The drains are small, short and cause splashes and leaks onto the alternator and starter motor. The best remedy which I did was I got it replaced with the punto Evo plastic drains. However there was still water leaking onto the alternator and was a waste of money.
The best solution for this fix was to increase the length of the drains so to prevent alternator and starter motor problems.
What I did was I got a bike tyre tube and cut it to the length which was needed and fixed it onto the the old rubber drains, thus solved the problem of water leaking into the engine department, therefore reducing likelihood of future complications as water is not good in any engine compartment and causes electrical and mechanical problems.
Just wanted to share this easy fix.
Best thing is to keep an eye out for water in the engine bay or noticing a squeak on the belt when starting the car.

hi mate, i have a feeling i may have this problem?

when its cold/damp and always wet i get a squeaking noise coming from what sounds like a rotating part.

could you guide me slightly towards the way of getting round this then?

where are the window drains located.

thanks mate

nice cheap fix :worship:..... But what you doing with the bike with one flat tyre

Suppose trimming the "lips" off the original drain first will save it blocking up and a cable tie wrap will hold it nice and secure

I did the same only I used heat shrink tubing, which lays flat, and tucks neatly behind the brake pipes etc and protrudes out below the alternator.

I'm guessing one of these sold for a Mito will fit too? Might have to invest in one :)

Thanks Andy

should think so they are only £9 or so at a dealership last winter they were off for £15 to £20..... on the bay of e

Thanks for this thread and raising the issue guys.

I fitted this pro-active fix to my car a couple of weeks ago (y)

It was a good opportunity to clean out the area below the scuttle panel, sand, leaves and all sorts of other shizzle was hanging around in there. :)

Hum
