Hi guys. I've currently got a 1.9Mjet diesel Grande remapped to 160bhp with a Pipercross panel filter. Im wanting to get it as close to 200bhp as possible on a £1500 budget. Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks!

Urgh I forgot about the gearbox. It whirrs quietly in 5th and 6th already, is that a sign of things to come?

Yes it is. I'm sure there's upgraded bearings possibly?

Remove CAT, block off EGR replace center and back box with freeflow versions and get a proper remap by someone better and 200bhp is achievable. However I would keep it about 185bhp.

Personally id chuck some money at the handling too. Forge underside subframe braces are a must. Eibach sportlines with Bilstein gas shocks also work well :D

I've been offered an uprated exhaust system from exhaustsUK for £375 but not quite sure what this will involve, they did mention gains though how much I'm not sure. Surely the EGR is there for a reason? Is it ideal to blank? Thanks for the help.

As far as i know, the EGR valve is only there for manufacturer's to reduce emissions. Once blanked off car has a small amount of more power, better power delivery and potentially better fuel consumption too.

I blocked my EGR valve the other week, and noticed the difference straight away, however so did my engine management :( so took it out went to work, 10 minutes on the motorway, next day put it straight back in because it was so sluggish on that motorway journey, once I put it back in it was like a totally different car i.e. much much better the difference was like night and day

Cheers

Yeah same here mate. Power delivery was instant and smooth and pulls a lot harder too. For that, i can live with the light. Might just have to take the plate out for MOT due to eml but its a simple enough job to do.

Yeh would agree with that, although if I get my de-cat pipe hopefully I won't need the egr blank plate, the eml bugs me lol

Cheers

hmmm no mention of an inter cooler upgrade, and that's the first thing i always do even before a remap. all well and good putting more fuel in but if the inter cooler cannot cool down the amount of air you need for that extra fuel, you'll not get the full benefits of the other work you have done.....and i'd say going to 200 bhp from what 130bhp? Sorry Fiat aren't that generous on intercooler sizes... of course if the car starts smoking like a good un and wasting fuel and power especially under load and all the detriments that brings, you might thing the tqo most important bits were a bigger turbo and a bigger inter-cooler......

is it an easy job the blank the EGR valve then? People have been recommending a blanking plate but with holes cut in? It seems the cheapest mod right now that could draw good benefits, plus my car suffers from that horrible juddering around 2K revs so hopefully this will fix that too. I've seen someone on here with 184bhp and 350lbs of torque, that'll do me haha!

By the sounds of it it's like a whole new car again once you've put this plate on then? very tempted haha :D

Makes you wonder why Fiat did it in the first place haha. Im guessing emmisions! Anyhoo, where can I find this plate? Or is it a DIY job?

not really most of the time people are driving around with a malfunctioning MAF and that why they apparently notice such a difference, as the MAF is closed anyway if its working properly when the engines under decent load..
that said i'd blank it but remember your engine will run a tad hotter under light loads and i have no idea what this could mean long term... MAFs reduce nox gasses by lower internal engine temp at light throttle openings...

Nobody has mentioned uprating the brakes either, which I would do if you are looking to add almost 70bhp to the original bhp!

Yes that is also true, might want to invest in some updated discs and pads etc, I found some EBC ultimax discs on eBay the other day for a very reasonable price will be buying them for sure when funds permit, would be rude not to lol

Cheers

A quick search on ebay should throw up a few results, if not did with a bit of aluminium. Wouldn't recommend one with holes, engine management light will still flag up and if its not blanked off then you're not going to get the benefit either. Ive tried both the solid and holed plates and ended up with the solid one.

Simple job really but a tad awkward. Remove engine cover, remove 3 bolt from EGR valve (located at the back of the engine block) undo 2 bolts underneath the egr to the fabric coated link pipe (this is the tricky bit as its done through feel not sight), be ready to catch the gasket. Fit blanking plate with gasket as well (gasket on the bottom to seal against the link pipe, bolt back together, bolt egr back on job done (y). If you can get the awkward bolts out and then back in in good time its not a long job at all.
