Hello kind people, I have a problem with my 1.3 jtdm 75 grande punto 2007, I'm hoping someone can shed some light provide some advice...
Strap in, it's not a short one...
I have done 114,000 miles with relatively no problems, except for the EGR warning code but even then the car drove fine UNTIL I attempted to remove the EGR and clean it. After reading the guide for the 1.9 I thought it looked easy enough. Bad idea.
I got as far as removing the solenoid, easy enough (after removing the battery and air box to open up the angles) then realised that this was not a job for the road and put it back together until I could get back to the sactuary of "dads garage" which is 120 miles away.
I gave it a bit of a tap and a spray with WD-40 for good measure and put the whole thing back together the following day under slight drizzle.
The car turned over and fired, but severely restricted tick-over and wouldn't rev above 1000 rpm.
So I phoned the old man for advice, told him the above and asked if the rain could have anything to do with it. he said take the air box back off and spray WD-40 down the inlet to act as a kind of starter fluid and burn up the crap.
However, I took the airbox off at thebit BEFORE the mass air flow sensor :bang:
now I had an MAF covered in wd-40. The car won't start at all now
I have since removed the MAF and sprayed liverally with electrical contact cleaner but it still won't fire.
The whole thing sounds a little choked.
Could the wd-40 and tap have dislodged some of the soot in the EGR and sent it round the inlet and into the chambers?
I hope to get it towed back to the old man's tonight or tomorrow and get his hand held scanner on it for the engine codes, but wondered if any of you other DIYers or the top techs might be able to point me in the right direction?
I will update with the engine codes as soon as I have them.
Many thanks for reading
