I bought my gp in may and thought the brakes were brilliant even though the pads and disks were fairly worn.
I just thought that the brakes were designed well, recently when going slowly with the windows down I can hear a rubbing kind of sounds like the brakes are always braking or sticking.

Also I jacked the car up and spun the front wheel round it sounds like the brakes are sticking then aswel? Is this normal because I would have thought that the wheel should spin freely?

Is this purely because they need changing or is there another issue I need to sort out,?

Any help is very appreciated as I would like to let my mind rest or get this sorted.

Sam

I would more than likely leave it to a garage anyway as I'm not very handy with things like that and I wouldn't want to muck up my only mode of transport I think I'll take it to a garage and see what they say I just hope it's something cheap simple haha

Avoid the fast fit places find a small independent your more likely to get an honest answer.....

depending on engine size parts prices vary but to get an idea http://www.shop4parts.co.uk/

if pads and discs are changed your looking at about 1hr labour absolute tops....

or they are taking the pee

this is Me doing a fiat 500 the gp is a slightly different set up but you get the idea time wise

The garage I'll take it to is a good little garage which is where I get my mot I know a lad that works there who's alright so I doubt they'll rip me off so I'll have to pay a visit and see what they say hopefully it's just pads and disk and not new calipers haha

It should (if in neutral) but its normal to hear a slight hiss as the brakes drag slightly. You will also be turning half of the gearbox so it isn't going to keep spinning like a bike wheel does.

If you give it a good shove it might do one complete turn.

I think what Andy said before about the disks gripping the pad from the worn in groove on the disk is most likely. I think it'll all be sorted with new pads and disks :) I'm going to take it to my local garage on Friday after work hopefully get it done on Saturday with some luck

On shop for parts why are the vented disks cheapen than solid? And are they good prices as I may see how much it would be and see if I can get it cheaper myself and just get them to fit it

I always thought my discs/pads were scraping, like a sscchhhhh sound, but that was 3 years since it had new pads, the discs are only 50% done I was told at my last MOT so just a feature of the car.

EDIT: I tried left foot braking in practice for my karting and almost launched myself through the windscreen so yes they definitely do work.

As above, different suppliers or more common part (so economies of scale).
