Anybody elses range played up like this? It never normally does but recently, it fluctuates massively. Goes from 86 to fuel low warning back to 36 then 70 then fuel low warning again! Today it's telling me I've got 201 miles left when there's more likely to be about 120 in there. This is not straight after a refill, it's had plenty of time to sort itself out and I aint driving it any differently to normal.

Any ideas?

Fuel level sender up the creek?

Maybe nothing wrong at all – as it’s just a calculated guess or prediction based on your driving history.
What’s your prediction of range with a fuel low of 6 (±1) litres?

Yes but like I say it's not usually that erratic. It's easy to tell when something is playing up, this is def playing up.

For example, yesterday it said range 80miles, the petrol gauge arrow was up past the quarter full mark. Today the fuel light has just come on, only ever happened at round about 90miles plus. Today it's showing 60!

AFAIK, the digital range is based and fluctuates around your current driving patterns (what's your current MPG? Are you driving harder than normal). The fuel light doesn't come on until your car has an estimated 70 miles left in the tank (according to the Grande Punto manual) so base it off that once you get that low on fuel.

Driving same as always as said above. More conservatively if anything with it being dodgy driving conditions at the minute. My current MPG is 47.__ same as usual. I know it changes depending on how I drive etc. BUt my light always comes on with about 92-98 left on the range, today it's on with 60 on the range and the arrow is jsut touching the red. The arrow touching the red is 2 gallons, I get 80 miles out of that.

Have you considered an ECU reset?

1. Disconnect the negative cable at battery.
2. Wait approx. 15-30 minutes.
3. Reconnect negative cable.
4. Drive around casually, letting the engine get up to temperature and re-learn and store all variables.

I'll give it a go, cheers. It's not the end of the world, just slightly annoying. Given the situation am I right to go off the needle rather than the range?

Good stuff. And yes of course, for the time being. Just make note of the fuel light turning on and go to fill it up that day. No benefit in waiting until she's nearly empty because what you'll save waiting, you'll still have and save when filling up ;)

Yeah, cheers. Usually fill up on a Friday, I guesstimate it to have roughly 60 in it come tomorrow. But my range will probably be flashing fuel low on the way home today! That worries me slightly, as I don't want to run out, but I won't run out, will ignore it.

Cheers
