how much better are the gearboxes in tjets, as oppose to mjets.

well mines been rebuilt once and i fear its on its way out again after 10k, ive seen a few members on here with tjet gearbox issues but nothing compared to the amount of mjet gearboxes, I was going to buy a astra vxr until i realised its got the same gearbox as the mjet :( ooooowel haha

haha true!! could always change it I suppose?

is your tjet engine standard btw? just wondering why it's had to be rebuilt

dont think the vxr is pretty enough to spend a new gearbox on haha :)

yer my engine is 100% stock never done anything to it, i dont think the previous owner before me looked after it very well, the gearbox was still useable just trouble to get it into certain gears and it did a fair bit of grinding  thats all fixed now, it just needs a little persuasion to go into reverse occasionally!

Been considering buying a few bits for the engine but dont really want to have another gearbox go and have to cough up £1k, might have to take the risk haha ;)

VXR's are better looking than punto's in my opinion. Punto's are too roundy and girly. And VXR gearboxes are not made of chocolate if you change the Gearbox oil every year or so and know how to drive ;)

Mine is on 60K and has never had the gearbox changed, whereas on my M-jet and abarth they both had to be recon'd, didn't know the previous owner to either of them though :(

How do people pop their gearboxes? Apart from excess power? Harsh downchanges and maintenance?

My 5th gear went on my old punto 5yr ago - since then I heel an toe when changing down. Smoother & Never had any problems since, in any car.

As for the MJet vs TJet argument. TJet for fun, country road blasts. MJet for motorway and traffic light grand prix

manly ;) It has more agressive looks. Don't get me wrong, I've had three punto's up untill last month and from one extreme to the other. First being 1.2 and last being the abarth, But they just have nothing on the astra. I love punto's, but I love the astra even more. It's just in a different class with regards to how it drives, speed and feels so soo much more solid than the punto. But the interior is pretty nasty! But the seats are nice and all the extras :D

I just love the punto for its huge arse haha even better on the abarth with the wheel trim to widen it out more!

I would love an astra for the styling and the noise, its the interior that put me off, after owning a corsa c id say that had a better interior than a vxr!

now, do we dare start the argument about astra vxr's and going round corners? ;)

Thats very true.;)
One of the few cars a really dislike in almost every way, but saying that the new one dose look like quite a step up in looks both inside and out(y) probably handles better too:p

I think the main problem is vxrs is not the looks or power, but how f*** common they are! see them absolutely everywhere where I live. saying that, in one day last week I saw 3 Nissan GTRs, ferrari spyder and 2 aston martin db9s. Such a random supercar day for some reason, must have been the sun
