I had my car serviced today at HiQ, a relatively decent garage... (56 plate 5 door diesel)

But they cannot turn the service light off... Aparently they have tried 2 different plug in systems but to no avail...

It currently flashes saying 'service coupon expired' , and the spanner shows!

Has anyone got any suggestions? Cheers!

it obviously not a relatively decent garage. if they quoted to service it and reset service indicator, and theyve not fulfilled this, then tell them they better take it to fiat dealer at there cost to reset it. most normal independent garages can reset the light, so cant see why they cant

On my old 1.3GP the "service spanner" came on after I had a service at kwik fit. However before I could take it back to get it removed, it turned itself off after so many miles.

How many miles? They said a similar thing to me however I was a bit dubious thinking they would just try and palm me off a bit.

Their website is here and its a fairly big and busy garage! - hiqonline .co. uk/

I might insist that the quote was to reset the light as you say and that they need to sort it out at their expense, they managed to snap part of the socket covering (down and right of the steering column) as well so they are getting me a replacement one as we speak. - I'm not too impressed to be honest!#

They claimed to have tried 2 different systems to reset the light. They said something about how I may have driven too many miles since the light came on to be able to reset it... could that be true or is that made up??

I had the same problem the first time I had mine serviced at a non-Fiat garage. Sure enough the spanner stayed on for about 100miles after the service counter got to zero and then went out. Haven't seen it since... ...that was about three years ago!

So does your trip computer not remind you any more?

...I think I need to insist that they get it reset at their cost...

Right just phoned the local fiat garage... its closer than I thought (over twice as far as HiQ though)...

They will charge £9.49 to reset the service light... HiQ is enroute to the fiat garage so I'm stopping for a rant and demanding they pay for the service light to be turned off! - after all they did say they would do it. I quite like the car telling me when to service it!

Thanks for your help guys. I'll let you know whether I succeed!

I'm sure I read a thread in which someone finally managed to work out a procedure to reset the service indicator without tools. It was a couple of months ago and quite complicated.
