Hi Guys,

New to fiat forum :)

Just need some help, I recently bought a Grande Punto Sporting 1.3mjet. However as it is a rare model there isnt any sign of it on comparethemarket.com. Also when i contact my insurer they believe its a 1.9 even though on my v5c it states its a 1.3.

Now admiral want 1500 for my renewal where as the very similiar dynamic with the same engine is only 1000 for the year.

do i just state its a dynamic 90bhp jtdm or pay the extra cost?

Thanks

Kyle

so rare it really doesn't seem to exist !

are you sure it is as you state "a Grande Punto Sporting 1.3 mjet" as i can't find any mention of this car

where have you got the 'Sporting' From ? a badge or does it actually say it on the V5c what does it say if you use your car registration number on the car insurance websites?

there is a good reason you can't find it anywhere

Don't think there is such a thing as a 1.3 m-jet sporting. Does it have side skirts, 17inch wheels, a spoiler, blue and me system etc?

Ah so it is an import to non-uk specification, that will make getting insurance more complex. Online quotes tend to assume uk spec so you might have to pick up the phone. Adrian flux are good when things aren't straightforward.

Definitely a Sporting,
V5C States that its a punto sporting 16v

has the 17" alloys, the spoiler, seats etc.

My dealer said that it was a factory order so you just need to notify your insurer of the engine size.

I had a look online and found a review of the 1.3 sporting but never really any sold.
but when ive been on youtube there seems to be some in foreign countries and i know it wasnt an import as the only previous owner had it on lease in the UK from the date registered.

its frustrating as it has all the looks of a sporting but the 6 speed 90bhp jtd thats in the dynamic.

 i dont know what to do :(

Yeah when i initially rang to explain when i bought the car they was like okay and altered it
but then when i got my renewal its 500 more than the dynamic with the same engine. and when i put a quote in for a 1.9 sporting its the same price as mine.
Ive had it a month this week and tbh i want to take it to dealership as it frustrates me when im a first year apprentice with it on finance :/

Get a different insurer then, they sound like idiots.

On phone to them right now, they reckon they can charge me same because its not all about engine size. At age 20 engine size really does make a difference
she currently speaking to her manager.

If it's not all about engine size tell them you're shoving a 6.2 Merc engine in then. ;)

I'd definitely change insurers though, I can understand them charging you more than the 1.3 dynamic, because the sporting obviously looks better, more desirable to steal, more parts to fix if crashed etc, but they can't possibly charge you the same as the 1.9.. it's got nearly 50% more power.

They are technically right as a 20 year old male your propensity to have an accident in a 1.3 is negligible over a 1.9, when it comes down to driver experience the average young driver accident occurs when they lose control rather than the car getting away from them under acceleration. The argument for the driver to get into trouble quicker goes out the window with the argument that a lower powered car won't get you out of trouble quick enough. Young drivers also have a tendency to carry their mates about leading to potentially higher claims for personal injury, the flasher the car the more encouragement and the more likely an accident the engine sizes doesnt affect any of this

Your sporting is not comparable with a dynamic however it is comparable with the 1.9 sporting as they are as similar as much as to make little difference

When I was your age I was driving big two litre family cars because new drivers always drive small economical cars, I was paying less in insurance than friends in 1.1 ford fiestas
Statics showed I was less of a risk hence the lower costs, so not everything is down to engine size

Thanks for all your reply guys I really appreciate it. I couldn't manage to drop it by the basis of the engine because as you pointed out it is more desirable to steal diff parts etc. however they had records that I'd attempted an online quote with elephant with my mum as a second driver and it smashed 450 off what admiral had quoted me so the manager matched the quote for me :)
So it looks like I'll be keeping my punto :D
Once again I appreciate the responses, good to see a responsive community, when I had my old Saxo (dad got me it, not a chav honest) no one ever responded on forums unless you'd put a massive exhaust or a Vtr kit.
