I got my Grande Punto 1.9 Jtd Sport yesterday.
I have driven it for about 300Km now and I'm starting notice some things.

One of the is a bearing like sound, that increases and decreases with the revs of the engine.

I have been reading a lot on the forum and find numerous post about whining turbo's.

I must say it's not whining.
Not a high pitched sound.
It sound more like a bearing or something like it.

The car responds well to the throttle, but I'm used to a 1.4 petrol engine without a turbo. So not a good reference.

I could not find video's hear or on youtube that focusses on these sounds.
They may be out there, but then I missed them.

So my questions:

Is this sound normal for a Fiat jtd?
I drove a 1.9 jtd alfa ones and this does not sound familliar.
If not could it be the turbo or would you ques something else?
What brand and type of turbo is used on these cars?
Is it a straight swap, or do I have to set it up to the right settings (wastegate actuator)?

Turbo is a garrett gt1749v, found on vauxhall astra 1.9cdti 120bhp 8v engine.

Also on other engines too such as the 16v 1.9cdti but i have been told that the bolt holes on the turbo do not line up to ours on the mjet punto.

You can buy a rebuild kit for around £125 but then you would have to find someone who will balance the turbo for you.

The bearing noise I can pretty much guarantee will not be the turbo. It will most likely be:

Gearbox/clutch release bearing or dmf.
Auxiliary belt tensioner(fixed or adjustable)
Cam belt bearing (fixed or adjustable)
Or water pump

Ok,

I did not notice the sound two weeks ago while testdriving it.
As parts of the deal they have replaced the cambelt.
Could it be they have put it on to tight/ did not replace the tensioner or anything like that. And that this is the cause of the sound?

I would seriously check what work they did or didn't do . If they didn't do tensioned or water pump you may have some serious problems. Water pumps are known to be crap, and especially if kept after re tensioning a new belt

I'm also curious about that.
But as I have 6 months waranty I'm not gonnan do anything myself.
Tommorow I'm gonna go to a Fiat garage to get their opinion.

After that I will contact the dealer that they must fix it.
If there is something wriong ofcourse.

I have a feeling this is the case with my turbo. You can here it spool normally but in the middle of revving there is a really loud screetching noise. One garage said it was my turbo but im not convinced. A couple of pals who are mechanics have just heard it and think there is the possibility of a belt rubbing on something. I dont know enough about where all the belts are but im going to get it up on a ramp take the sump guard off and have a look. let me know if you hear anything.

I went to the Fiat dealer today and he came with me for a drive.
Did a tour of 15 minutes, all gears and low and high revs.
He does not hear anything that's not normal.
So it must be all in my head (great song of the Gorrillaz by the way:p).

But back ontopic,

I checked the timing belt, and it's new.
They did'nt place a sticker anywere so I wasn't sure.
