My abs warning light came on a few days ago and I had a mechanic look at the car and he changed the front nearside wheel bearings (this was the code read) he said it was fixed and I drove home and guess what, the light came on again. Now when starting the car the speedo moves from zero to 15 mph with the seatbelt warning sign responding of course. I suppose the road speed is read by the abs sensors so no big surprise but what would you suggest my next step should be?
The forum has been very helpful to me as a fairly new Fiat owner and I am pinning my hopes on good advice here, thanks!

interesting one this as i saw the exact same problem 2 weeks ago
mechanic that did it farmed the job to a hopeless code reading junkie who i heard 2nd hand had diagnosed a faulty abs pump (second pump ive heard hes fitted this month),smell a rat?
anyway
what would i do?
take it back and tell him to re diagnose fault still current,
it sounds an obvious abs sensor usually front nearside causing issue but i dont work on these later puntos yet so dont know the drill of how they tick yet
im sure fes would sort this or at least give a good pointer

yes thanks I suspect a sensor rather than something more serious but to be honest the mechanic I use is pretty good usually but of course he could be misled by a code reader as easily as anyone. He has offered to get it in again but with the xmas break it seems I have to live with it a little longer

I would love to know how the Wheel bearing is going to stop the ABS system from working, however the sensor would, my argument on taking the car back is that he didn't fix the problem as diagnosed so he now has to fix it FOC

my parents recently had a similar situation where the car had a fault which they changed the alternator for didn't fix the problem then had to take the hit of all further costs until the problem was fixed.

guy i know allegedly used a x431 which is a £2500 glorified code reader so hes either totally inept or the machine is rubbish
a decent reader you should be able to plug it in jack up each wheel spin it and confirm that senser working this is why i like my sykes pickavent sp4 but havent updated it to latest fiats
a lot of mechanics know how to do a clutch but not how to read codes and vica versa im thinking of changing my business in the new year to concentrate on fixing other peoples cockups on the electrical front seeing as theres loads of cars going to fail on eps and airbag lights on

he has always been pretty fair with me so I expect he will do the job right, it would help to get a starting point from the forum in the meantime

ABS sensor uses a pick up on the hub, if the bearing is worn bad the gap between the sensor and pick up ring gets bigger and the sensor wont read hence the fault light.

its more likely he damaged the pickup as he replaced the bearing :)
of course some bearings are handed too with abs magnet in
im not sure on this model as i say
