hello, could anyone help me? I've managed to lock my keys in my boot..3dr grande punto (07). Anyone know the cheapest and least destructive way to get the keys out?
cheers

No spare key?

Price up what window is cheapest to replace and smash it.

I almost did it once. I normally always lock the car when getting stuff out the boot after opening it with the button. Something heavy in boot, placed keys in to take out, closed boot.

thankfully I'd not locked the car on this occassion.

Have you got a membership with any of the Breakdown companies?

Daughter locked her keys in her previous car, so we called Green Flag, who sent out a specialist company... a short time later.. we had hold of the keys again, no damage to the car and not a penny out of pocket :D

Wooohhhooooo I'm not the only idiot to have done this.
Pointless ringing breakdown recovery, because all they'll do is try and lever the door open and lift the handle. After watching the AA for 2 hours and fail the 2 options are as follows.
Ring a lock smith, tell him to try the passengerside door as its easier than the drivers they charge you about £120 including the call out.
Or if your fully comp smash a windon in rage of your stupidity, but with the feeling your not alone, in what you've done.

If you're not in a hurry to get the car mobile, order an new non-remote key from Fiat.

1. It'll come pre-cut to your locks. Simply unlock the front doors and pop the boot.
2. Once mobile again, you'll now have a spare key for if this ever happens again, plus get it coded-in and it'll start the car as well.

As it happens Green Flag send out a proper lock smith :nerner: not a mechanic, which is all part of your policy.

Perhaps you should have gone with Green Flag mate :D

I would personally break the small little window at the front and then reach in and press the boot unlock/ unlock door button with a long stick or something simular

Does the boot release work with the car locked? I guess someone could try this out first.

I always thought the Fiat lock system was odd; why can’t opening the boot unlock all the doors like other cars? It would only require a change to the software. The lack of an external boot release is annoying too.

In this case the stupidity does not lie with the person who locked their keys in but with Fiat for designing a system where this is possible.

As for getting in, I’d smash a small window after applying lots of tape to hold it all together. Glass is a bugger to hoover up.

It there no way you can pull on the top of the door, bend it out and wedge it before inserting something long, thin and rigid to snag the door handle? (I'm assuming that the act of pulling open the interior handle has the same effect of unlocking the doors as it does on the Mk2?)

A lot of cars do this now. I think it's for security although I can't be certain. It's easily done, and it's not a problem if you've got two keys (most 2nd hand owners don't though lol! :()

I can confirm that the boot release & unlock button doesn't work when the car is locked using the key. I just tried it now :D but you can pull the door handles and they still work.

Neither should work while the car is locked as in theory no-one will be inside. However, IIRC, once the interior handle is pulled and the doors unlock, the Body Computer will wake-up and the buttons should work for a few minutes.

Obviously the interior handles won't work if it's been deadlocked. ;)

Yeah I thought this would be the case anyway but when I opened the door from the inside, the light on the lock button still flashes and you can't use the boot or unlock/lock buttons still.

So if you were to lock your keys in the car and the doors had been deadlocked what would you do then? I guess you’d have to smash a rear side window and fold the seat back down then fish the keys out.

I maintain that the whole car should unlock when the boot is opened, and that the fiat system is silly.

From the top of my head, I know the Focus has the same system. And the Volvo S40.

Exactly. In fact you can virtually guarantee that any car with a fob which has a boot release button seperate to the normal lock/unlock buttons will be the same.

Ideally most people wouldn't keep both keys on the same keyring, so wouldn't need to take drastic measures like breaking windows to get in.
