Could do with your expert opinions.

My car is currently making a knocking/clunking noise that is driving me mad because of the amout of visits i have made to garages.

When starting up the engine car knocks once then all seems ok. If i sit with the car in neutral /in gear and turn the wheel side to side i get loud knocking noise that is only realy noticeable inside the vehicle. I also get the noise when coming to a standstill in gear or not.

Any suggestions please shout! The current suggestion is possibly the stearing rack is worn but when the car is put on the ramp in the garage its hard to detect because it makes no noise due to the wheels not touching the ground!

Work done - Gearbox leak repaired, Stabiliser arm replaced and Mid Mount replaced.

It might be an exhaust pipe hanger banging on the floor. It might be a worn engine mount especially the one underneath.

If its steering it might be the electric power assistance, but that should show a warning lamp on the dash. Is the battery old? Its unlikely to be the rack.

Search the Punto Mk1 and Mk2 section about their PAS systems that might be useful.

Mine is doing the same! Been told it could be steering rack bush or top strut mounts... Did you get yours sorted/diagnosed?

slacken off engine mountings, shake engine about vigorously and retighten engine mounts, should sort.

I have same problem as well. Now I need to buy steering rack and a few Fiat Parts. Where's the best place to purchase stuff for my ride?

I had the same problem,v cheap to repair,open the engine,on the right and left near the windscreen there is 2 round things don't know what they call them,open them take them off and put some grease and then put them back then the more U drive you will notice its gone that noise,send ur email and I will take a pic for U.

the top mounts ?

mine is making a noise like a knocking/squeaking noise since i lowered it on coilovers, im pretty sure its the bush on the front wishbone which is out of its comfort zone!
