Hi, I have a problem that I hope someone can help me with. My heater blower only blows on speed setting “4”, 1,2 and 3 don’t work at all. I have checked the fuse in the engine bay but that’s ok but obviously if it was that then it wouldn’t work at all, I have also removed the actual switch that controls the speed and took it apart for inspection but everything looks ok so very confused why it doesn’t blow on 1,2 & 3 but work fine on the fast number 4 setting? :bang:

Anyone had this problem? Any advice would be appreciated.

yes the link was for pollen filter replacement but it shows you how to get the plastic trim off ;)

You should find next to the blower fan, a resistor, although you won't see that until you unscrew 2 screws, there'll be wires going to it, its rectangle shaped with rounded ends, regards john

Nice to see lots of people willing to help, firstly though some are saying it’s the module, where in the footwell is that located? Also where is the resistor located? Had a look yesterday and I can see the fan housing that has one connector going into it “A” (see photo) not sure what “B” is? Removed both of these connectors to inspect but couldn’t see any signs of burning etc.

making me wish i had stayed with my pug 307!! :-(

Mine did exactly the same. It seems to be a common problem. There is the possibility to connect 2 ground-wires, but Fiat chose to use only one. One terminal can't carry the current for the fan, it overloads, and burns out.

I hate fiats...

I had the same problem last month, if you look at the wires going into the module in the footwell one of them is probably burnt out, i just replaced the wire and all is working fine!(y)

part B! the brown on mine had burnt out.

Digging out the old thread since I am also facing the same issue in my 2008 GP 1.4 8V 77PS with A/C.
Problem: Blower fan working only on 4 and not on 1,2,3... I removed and checked the FAN connector and it seems the brown wire is burnt. The conducting lines look black instead of golden/silver colour.
Temporary workaround: Just fiddle with the connector and the fan works in 1,2,3 but again switches off after some time.
I guess the wire is burnt and there is some connectivity if I fiddle the connector and also the wire loom overheats when fan runs (may be due to a thin conductor in the burnt wire)

@lukedmartin88: Could you please let me know how you changed only that single wire

wow, this is an old thread the punto has long gone and I currently drive a new Astra, completely forgot about the forum... from memory shortening the wires only worked temporarily and eventually caused a small fire whilst driving along in the passenger footwell! so beware! I ended up buying a new module and wire loom and fitting it myself. I also found that it is exactly the same parts from a Corsa of a similar age and was almost 40% cheaper from a vauxhall dealer than it was from a Fiat one. I think it cost about £70 in total. I hope this helps, Good Luck

Well this forum never disappoints. I was wracking my brains trying to work out how come my heater would only blow on 4 and sure enough the answer was on Fiatforum. Not that I like the answer, I've no idea how I'm going to fit a new module and wiring loom, but I guess thats the way it has to be.

Many thanks for this. However recent developments leave me hopeful I won't have to do it after all...

I've actually just been outside poking around in the footwell and managed to restore fan speeds 1,2 and 3 by the highly technical process of pushing the contact back in.

My current best guess is that some idiot  knocked the connection when he/she (he) replaced the cabin air filter recently.

In the absence of witnesses I'm blaming Halfords.
