My gearbox is the bane of my life!

2007 Grande Punto 1.3 Diesel.

Here's the history ;

December 2009 - 1st,2nd gear's synchromesh and reverse gear replaced. Clutch replaced.

September 2010 - Gear linkages break and replaced.

Now looks like a hydraulic problem, so master & slave cylinder are being replaced. It appears the clutch plates aren't separating enough to allow the gears too slow down enough, hence an awful lot of resistance when changing gear. Hopefully this will cure it, if not another new clutch.

Any other idea's?

Well master cylinder and slave cylinder replaced. Master cylinder definitely worn, but problem not cured. So now a new clutch, by the sounds of things a diaphragm finger has broken as their is a sound from the bottom of the bell housing. Possibly the diaphragm fingers have sunk as the clutch is not self adjusting.(n)

New clutch installed from LUK.

Changes gear like a hot knife through butter now. Finally.

For a new master cylinder, slave cylinder and clutch about £620. This was done over 2 separate days, so if you managed to get it all done in a day the price may come down a little bit.

Bear in mind the cost of the parts came too roughly just over £200.

Hi,

Looks like I have similar issue to you...could be pricey, my problem as follows...

When cold car goes into all gears without a problem. Once warmer getting into 1st requires a serious amount of force, 2nd also requires force but not as much as 1st. Reverse just crunches and goes in eventually, usually turns a few heads though!

What does the fact that it gets worse as the car warms up point to?

Thanks

Have you checked \ changed the gearbox oil? I had similar gear selection issues with my wifes Renault Scenic, and despite dire warnings of needing a gearbox rebuild, new oil did the trick.

Hi, sorry meant to add to this thread ages ago. Had it done and it does feel a bit better when cold but still when hot you have to force it into gear so not a good result. Cost £81. Not sure what is next...

Did you manage to solve the issue? I'd really appreciate it if you could help me out I've got exactly the same problem with my car. Thanks!

Have you tried realigning the cable(s) ?

BRs, Bernie
