Hi Guy's I am at my witts end and am desperate for some advice, Firstley my car didn't start the other day jump started it and since then has been fine changed the battery just in case again all well till this morning and the same again won't start just dead, so decided to check the connections on the starter motor to no avail,

But after I put the battery back on ect when i went to start the car the power steering light is on continuosley so i think I have caught somthing does anyone have any Ideas what i Have done..... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Please guy's help would be sooooooo aprecated

Thanks in advance
Dean

No only if I jump start it by pushing it I think the starting issue is the starter motor,

But I am know really worried what i have done with the steering i must have caught or done4 somthing when i was messing around at the back of the engine with the starter motor

No as could get to it proberley but manager to see that it was all connected after I took the battery out and my alarm siren they have defo thought of the most hardist to reach place to put the starter

Okay have check all the fuses and connection both in the main fuse box next to the battery and also in the cabin inside the glove box have checked all battery connections ar tight, and all is okay with them you can her the relays clicking when yiou turn the key

some models have a inhibit relay in the circuit which i suspect yours has, you need to test what is going on at the starter itself. I think this is a job for the garage with all due respects as it requires access to the starter motor wiring and fusebox wiring.

Okay guy's what do you make of this, My 1.2 active on a 57 plate won't start just completed dead all the electrics come on the battery is fully charge but nothing when you turn the key anyway had to get somewere today and had no option but to push start it, any way my power steering light was on but steering worked fine, then the light went out and then on the way back after push starting it again how embarrasing that is lol, the power steering light was on again but i also notice my speedo stoped working as well then again after 5 minutes or so the power steering light went out and the speedo started working again. I have check the to main earthing points from the battery one on the frame and the other on the gearbox and both apear okay, am i right this must be an electrical fault.

thanks in advance guy's

you need to get the car starting before looking at any other faults it may have, concentrate on that first.

Starter is at back of engine it has 2 wires to it one heavy battery supply and one solenoid wire, any garage can check this for you even the likes of kwik-fit etc if your not confident.

Could this also effect the bulb blown light? If it does it might explain a lot!

I've had a similar problem with my Punto Active Sport (08 reg) since I bought it new. Periodically no power whatsoever to it. Its been in and out of the garage and they don't seem to have a clue really. Only thing I have identified is that it happens whenever there is a significant drop in temperature i.e. this time of year and/or its been raining.

Work that one out!!

Started again this week and now I'm into 3rd year warranty they want to charge me for the privilege of a fault that's been there since day 1.

I'm lost with what to do next. Love the Punto, just had an unreliable one.

Unless the standard fit radio has been replced with an aftermarket version, & assuming there is no low resistance diode in the rectifier pack, I'd STILL bet on duff batteries for both of you..

1) duff batteries show up in cold weather.
2) when cranking the engine, the starter makes a huge demand on the battery, if it isnt up to the job other eroneous warnings can show up as well as a "no start" situation.
3) off load voltage checking does NOT prove a good battery, needs checking on load.

Only then start looking for another fault, T has tried explaining that but as odd as it seems the battery remains the main suspect until categorically proved to be in full working order, along with the charging system including the alternator & its drive belt...

The first thing i did was change the battery as i thought a cell might be on its way out I have even got one of the better ones the bosch S5 so it has a good cranking power

aaaah but I posted that before I saw in another Thread that the engine was cranking but not firing... :)
