Hi,

My partners 06 plate grande punto has started to make clunking noises when going over bumps in the road. Took it to kwik fit today and they said both anti roll bar drop links need replacing and would cost £160.

Is this a reasonable price? As its bank holiday everywhere else is shut so cant phone around!

£160! And people call Dealer's rip-off merchants.

It's not a critical item (most people wouldn't notice the difference if the roll bar was removed), so you can leave it a few days and shop around.

agree; this type of symptom is often difficult to diagnose but as the drop links are cheap (about £10 each) and do wear out worth replacing them particularly if car is high mileage....

Oh right!

Cars done around 46k. The chap at kwik fit took it for a ride around the block and then put it up on the lift.

I'll phone around a few garages tomorrow and see what they say! Thanks for your help, i'll let you know what happened.

Mines done a little more than yours. Im not saying that it IS what ive done but id point them out and see what someone says. You not got a mechanic mate who isnt gona f*ck you over?

Nope. Plumbing and building work but not a mechanic mate. Got a couple of good garages locally i'll take it to tomorrow. Only reason I went to kwik fit was as it was the onyl garage open at the time and the noise was quite loud when going over bumps.

Well I know this is an old thread but was useful reference. Just done mine this morning. Bought new links from shop4parts at a bit over £20 a pair delivered! Both the originals and replacements have a round section above the rubber ball joint cover that has flats on the sides - a brilliant idea as that is for holding with an open ended spanner while you use a socket to get the nut off!

Anyway took about an hour to do both sides and the lower driver's side joint just flops around so definitely dead. Just need to go for a drive now and see how much better it is

Much better than those you try and hold with an Alan key where the hole has turned to red rust

Even with those mine were a nightmare to get off!! :p The replacements made such a difference though. My car is so quiet!
